Popular Nigerian socialite and celebrity barman Pascal Okechukwu, better known as Cubana Chief Priest has made fun of Afrobeat star Burna Boy after he lost out to colleague Tems at the recently concluded 2025 Grammy award.

Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu Ebunoluwa, was nominated for his song ‘Higher’ for the best African music performance category alongside Tems (Love me Jeje), Yemi Alade (Tomorrow), Asake ft Wizkid (MMS), and Chris Brown ft Davido (Sensational).

Ultimately, Tems won the award at the ceremony held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 2.

Cubana Chief Priest, who has had ongoing conflicts with Burna Boy, posted on his Instagram story expressing his opinion. He claimed that Tems would have lost the Grammy award if the controversial US rapper Diddy hadn’t been arrested, taking swipe at the ‘Bundle by Bundle’ crooner.

He wrote, “If to say Diddy Dey outside dem for use Johnson baby oil rub away her Grammy.”

Nigerian music star Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy has won the” Best Afrobeats Acts” Billboard Music Award.

Burna Boy, who won his first Grammy earlier this year, dedicated the latest award in his collection to Africa and every artist coming out of the region.

Billboard is the latest body to add an Afrobeats category, reflecting the genre’s global popularity.

Speaking in a recorded video, the award winner assured his fans that many good things are still coming.

Another Nigerian music superstar, Rema, also won an award for the ”best Afrobeats song” for his record-breaking song ”Calm Down”, which has smashed multiple streaming and chart records.

Accepting the award, Rema thanked his fans for their support, describing the prize as “a celebration of unity and the global dominance of Afrobeats”.

Music Star, Davido has reacted to the victories of his contemporaries at the 2021 edition of the Recording Academy Awards aka Grammys.

The 28-year-old singer reacted to Burna Boy and Wizkid wins hours after the 63rd edition of the awards ceremony hosted by Trevor Noah on Sunday, March 14, in the United States of America.

“Whichever way you look at it, this is a victory for Nigeria for the culture and for my people! Congrats to our winners! Tule Naija!” Davido tweeted.

Burna Boy broke the Nigerian music record at the 63rd Grammy Awards by winning a Grammy award for his album, ‘Twice As Tall.”

On the same night, Ayo ‘Wizkid’ Balogun won his first-ever Grammy Award after two nominations.

The win came through his duet with Beyonce on the song, ‘Brown Skin Girl’ off the 2019 album, ‘The Lion King.’

A Nigerian artist has featured in the official playlist for President-Elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.

Burna Boy’s song titled Destiny will feature alongside other big international artists’ songs.

The 46-song playlist was curated to reflect the diversity in the US, the Biden inauguration team said in a statement.

“These songs and artists reflect the relentless spirit and rich diversity of America. They are the score to a new chapter and will help bring people together as the Biden-Harris Administration begins its important work to unite our country,” the statement said.

The playlist features top artists including Beyoncé‘s “Find Your Way Back song”, Kendrick Lamar and Mary J. Blige‘s “Now Or Never”, Bob Marley and The Wailers “Could You Be Loved” and Dua Lipa‘s Levitating hit.
