Oyo State Governor and Chairman of the State’s COVID-19 Task Force, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has said that another two confirmed patients of the novel Coronavirus disease have been discharged.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicates that the governor stated this while giving a COVID-19 case update on Sunday.

The governor noted that the development has brought the number of active cases in the state to six.

According to the governor, the state has, so far, discharged nine COVID-19.

He urged residents of the state to continue to follow the guidelines released by the state task force towards preventing the spread of the virus.

While addressing the media after a meeting of the state’s Task Force on COVID-19 last week the governor stated that the distribution of the palliatives would begin this week.

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu has ordered the immediate deployment of additional intelligence and operational assets of the Force to the border communities between Lagos and Ogun States.

The efforts according to a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja Mr. Frank Mba was to strengthen security and bolster public confidence over the recent activities of hoodlums and street urchins in the area.

The Intervention Team comprising of the Police Mobile Force Units, Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Intelligence Response Team, and the Special Tactical Squad are being coordinated by a Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. Babatunde Ogunyanwo.

Mr. Ogunyanwo is the DIG in charge of the Department of Research and Planning of the Force and is also the coordinating DIG for South-West Geopolitical Zone.

He is to oversee the deployments of the additional assets to enhance public safety, public confidence and general security in the two States.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police has ordered Commissioners of Police across the country to immediately rejig the security architecture in their various Commands to effectively tackle all emerging crimes associated with the COVID-19 lock-down.

They are also to intensify patrols around residential areas, markets, shopping malls and all critical national infrastructures in their jurisdictions.

The Assistant Inspectors General of Police in the twelve Zonal Commands have also been directed by the IGP to bring their supervisory role to bear by ensuring that the Commands under their Zones are safe and secure for the citizenry to live and thrive.

The first covid-19 Patient in Ondo State is in stable condition and responding to treatment.

Commissioner for health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro who disclosed this to Radio Nigeria in Akure expressed optimism that the patient would soon recover.

Dr Adegbenro urged residents of the state to remain calm and adhere strictly to all safety measures especially social distancing, staying at home and maintaining personal hygiene.

He also reaffirmed the closure of all markets in the state while sellers of essential products such as foods, drugs and water should do so within the streets.

Dr Adegbenro solicited the support of all residents to help contain the spread of the disease in Ondo state.
