Students of Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, moor plantation Ibadan today protested to the street to demand for security presence in the school.

This followed alleged attack by suspected cultists on a male student.

As early as eight o’clock in the morning, the students had taken to the street on a peaceful protest.

The protest hindered free flow of traffic along Odo Ona – Apata road.

The protesting students who carried placards with various inscriptions including “no to cultism and we need security presence like other Federal academic institutions “chanted solidarity songs.

Officers of the Nigeria Police force were on ground to ensure the situation did not go out of hand.

Speaking on the essence of the peaceful protest, The Student Union president, Tiamiyu Taiwo noted that the male student had his cheek sliced with knife because he declined a request for money from one of the bandits terrorising the school.

Tiamiyu maintained that in recent times, such incident had been recurring, noting that previous meeting of SUG and the management on security was yet to have a mark on the campus.

The SUG president hinted that that the victim who was rushed to the institution’s health center had been referred to a private hospital in Ibadan for further treatment.

Another student who did not want her name mentioned said the suspected cultists who were not students had been terrorising for years alleging that they were responsible for some rape cases.

She said men of Operation Burst arrested about four suspects yesterday in connection with the matter.

Meanwhile as the protest was on, the crowd descended on one of David Ogugbemiro who was alleged to have been communicating with the suspected bandits on the situation.

On his part, David Olugbemiro claimed he had no relationship with the suspects.

Responding on behalf of the management, a lecturer, Dr Rotimi Ajayi said the school authority was on top of the situation, blaming the porous security situation on those who use the school premises as an alternative route.

He gave assurance that management would do all to prevent a recurrence.
