Alhaja Monsurat Amoke Bankole, mother of a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Dimeji Bankole, has passed on in Ogun state.

Alhaja Bankole was the Iya Adinni of Egbaland during her lifetime.

As announced by the Consultant to the Ogun State Governor  on Islamic Affairs, Sheik Iskeel Sugar, the 78 year old Alhaja Monsurat Bankole passed away on Friday 10th, January, 2025 in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Describing her as a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who dedicated her life to serving God and her community, Sheik Sugar said the late Iya Adini of Egbaland would be remembered for her unwavering commitment to the growth and unity of the Muslim community.

He pointed out that her burial would take place in accordance with Islamic rites later in the day at Onikoko area of Abeokuta, the state capital, while asking the Almighty Allah to grant her Al-Jannah Firdaus.

The immediate past Secretary to Ekiti State Government, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has been elected the candidate of APC in the June 18, Governorship election in the state.

Mr Oyebanji polled 101,703 votes to defeat other contestants in the primary election which was conducted in the 177 wards of the state through option A4.

However, the primary election was characterized by protests from six aspirants over alleged irregularities.

Announcing the result, the Chairman, Ekiti Primary Election Committee and Governor of Jigawa State Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, said Mr Oyebanji won the Primary election, having polled the total number of lawful votes in the election.

Former Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr Dimeji Bankole has performed the ground breaking ceremony of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Estate in Ogun State with a call on members to prepare for their retirements by investing in something meaningful for a secured future.


Performing the ceremony at Masa Community, in Kobape area of Ogun state, Mr Bankole commended the efforts of the SWAN executives for providing affordable land for their members.


He promised to continue to support initiatives geared towards improving the lives of Nigerians particularly journalists.


Also, the Olu of Kobape, Oba Olufemi Taylor who noted that the estate would enhance socio-economic development of the area assured SWAN of peaceful coexistence with the residents of the community.


The partner of the project, Mr Victor Eniola-Mark said the partnership with SWAN executive was borne of the need to ensure that journalists become house owners in spite of the meagre amounts being received as salaries.


Earlier, Ogun State SWAN Chairman, Alhaji Hakeem Akintunde said the estate was part of the initiatives of the executive to improve the welfare of members of the association.
