There is a need for the citizens and those in positions of authority to discharge their duties with the fear of God and ensure good governance to reposition the country for the better.
A Senior Lecturer at the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, University of Ibadan, Dr. Adams Akewula stated this while delivering a Ramadan Lecture organized by the National Orientation Agency, NOA, Oyo State Directorate at its Headquarters, Agodi, Ibadan.
While speaking on the theme entitled, “Managing Hard Time: Islamic Perspective”, Dr Akewula said corruption which is a result of greediness and selfishness, were factors responsible for the current socio-economic challenges bedevilling the nation, calling on the people to refrain from unpatriotic acts.
Dr. Akewula who spoke extensively on where the country misused available opportunities, advised those in power to rule with the fear of Allah and also enjoined the followers to do their part very well so that the society would be at peace.
In an address of Welcome, the Director, National Orientation Agency, NOA, Oyo State, Dr Olukemi Afolayan-Owolabi urged the well-meaning Nigerians to use the period of Ramadan to assist the less privileged by showing them love and care as exemplified by Prophet Muhammad.
Dr. Afolayan-Owolabi appealed to Nigerians to pray for the unity, peace and progress of Nigeria without forgetting the leaders whom God put there to lead the country at this moment.
In separate goodwill messages, representative of the Zonal Director, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Ibadan Zonal Station, Alhaji Nafiu Busari, that of Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Nigerian Correctional Service and Federal Fire Service called for oneness among the people irrespective of tribe, religious and political affiliations.
At the event, prayers were offered for peaceful coexistence and national security, good governance, Nigerians and the leadership of the country.
In attendance were, Islamic clerics, political office holders, the Muslim community, and members of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, Oyo State.
