Ondo State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, carried out a coordinated joint show-of-force patrol across strategic locations in the state.

In a statement on Tuesday signed by DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command said the exercise, which took place on Monday, involved officers from the Police, 32 Brigade Artillery of the Nigerian Army, NSCDC, and Amotekun Corps, covering highways, commercial centres, and densely populated areas in Akure and adjoining communities.

“The show-of-force patrol forms part of a broader security strategy being implemented to proactively tackle crime and ensure that residents go about their lawful activities without fear or intimidation.

“The Command remains committed to intelligence-driven policing and sustained collaboration with sister security agencies. This joint patrol sends a strong message to criminal elements that Ondo State is not a safe haven for crime,” CP Lawal said.

He added that security agencies are working around the clock to maintain peace, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.

The Commissioner of Police also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, saying, “Drawing from his wealth of experience, particularly his previous service in Ondo State, the IGP’s constant advice and strategic direction have greatly contributed to the operational successes recorded by the Command in recent days.”

The statement encouraged members of the public to cooperate with security operatives during patrols and other lawful operations, noting that such cooperation is vital to sustaining the current security architecture in the state.

The statement further described the operation as “yet another testament to the robust inter-agency collaboration and cooperation currently being enjoyed among security agencies in Ondo State,” emphasising the synergy between the Police, Military, NSCDC, and Amotekun Corps in strengthening security and coordinating responses to emerging threats.

Crime

The long arm of the law has caught up with two persons suspected of being ritualists in Ile-Oluji town in Ondo State, as they were nabbed by the Police on December 27, 2025.
The suspects were arrested after credible intelligence by operatives of the SWAT Tactical team, acting on a tip-off by a concerned citizen.

Public Relations Officer of Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who confirmed the incident on Saturday, narrated how the suspects were apprehended.

“The operation led to the arrest of two Suspects identified as Maria (female, 53 years) and Adewale (male, 28 years), while a10-year-old boy who was allegedly intended to be used for a ritual was successfully rescued. Meanwhile, the victim has been taken to a hospital for medical attention.”

Jimoh further explained how the two Suspects had planned to carry out their evil plan. “Preliminary investigations revealed that Maria conspired with her son, Adewale, to engage the services of an herbalist to use the victim for money ritual.”

He noted that the suspects are currently in police custody and have confessed to the crime.

DSP Jimoh added that they will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, warned parents to discourage their children from the “get-rich-quick” syndrome and to instill in them the values of hard work and integrity.

The Police Spokesperson appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest Police station.
