The Police in collaboration with a local vigilance group has arrested two suspected kidnappers in Taura Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed the arrest in an interview with newsmen in Dutse.

Shiisu said the suspects, aged between 35 and 40, were arrested on Sunday following reliable intelligence and credible information.

“Those arrested are believed to be members of a criminal gang that has been terrorising parts of the state and neighbouring Kano.

“The police arrested them during a special operation in Larabawa village, Gabasawa area of Kano and Larabar Gurgunya village in Taura, Jigawa,” he said.

Shiisu said that preliminary investigation showed that the suspects were responsible for the August 9 attack on personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Service.

“Investigation is also showing that the suspects killed two police officers at Kwalam village in Taura on January 23,” he said.

The police spokesman further stated that four magazines with 83 rounds of 7.9mm live ammunition, two locally made pistols, bows, arrows and two sticks were recovered from them.

He also said that cellular phones, clothes, lubricating oil, three Nigeria National Identity Cards and four photographs were recovered from the suspects.

Shiisu urged the public to always avail the police of credible and reliable information concerning suspicious persons around their environment.

He said the suspects would be arraigned in court as soon as the investigation into the matter has been concluded.

A 37-year-old man, Munkaila Ahmadu, has killed both his parents and injured two other people with a pestle in Zarada Sabuwa village in the Gagarawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State, northwest Nigeria.

The Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Police Command, DSP Lawan Shiisu, who spoke to newsmen, said Ahmadu has no history of mental illness nor was he under the influence of any hard drug.

He said, “Munkaila Ahmadu used a wooden pestle and attacked his 70-year-old father, Muhammad, and his 60-year-old mother Hauwa.

“The 37-year-old also did not spare Kailu Badugu, a 65-year-old, and Hakalima Amadu, a 50-year-old who lived in the same compound with his parents.”

“Upon receipt of the ugly report, a team of Policemen visited the scene of the crime and conveyed the victims to General Hospital Gumel.

“The said Ahmadu Muhammad ‘m’ and Hauwa Ahmadu ‘f’ were certified dead by doctors as a result of head injuries sustained. While Kailu Badugu and Hakalima Amadu who sustained various degrees of injuries were admitted.”

However, the Police confirmed the arrest of the suspect, and the exhibit was recovered.

The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Police Command, CP Aliyu Tafida, directed that the case should be transferred to SCIID Dutse for discreet investigation and possible prosecution of the culprit.
