Twenty suspected criminals have been paraded by Ekiti State Police Command for different offences ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, attempted murder, burglary and conspiracy.

Parading the suspects at the Rapid Response Squad office Ado Ekiti, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Sunday Abutu explained that the suspects who were arrested at different locations were among those terrorising the State.

Mr Abutu said the arrest was made possible through the efforts of men of the command and necessary information from residents of the state.

Among the suspects paraded was a man who broke into a church in Osun state and stole over six hundred thousand naira offerings contributed by the congregation.

Mr Abutu confirmed that during the investigation, the suspects confessed to having committed the crime.

He said the suspects would be charged to court after completion of the necessary investigation, saying those at large would soon be arrested by officers of the Ekiti State Police command.

Items recovered from the suspects included two big power generating sets, shoes, clothes and money.

A man identified as Ojo Babatunde from Omuo-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has been arrested by officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Ekiti State Command, for impregnating his 15-year-old step-daughter.

In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, DSP Sunday Abutu, on Wednesday, in Ado-Ekiti, Babatunde was arrested by the Juvenile Welfare Centre, JWC, of the state CID.

According to the statement, the culprit had carnal knowledge of the victim (name withheld) which led to a four-month pregnancy.

The Police PRO noted that the suspect would be arraigned in court as he confessed to the crime, claiming that it was the handiwork of the devil.

The statement reads in part: “The victim, who is already 4 months pregnant, claimed that the suspect, Ojo Babatunde, who is also her step Father, had carnal Knowledge of her severally before and after she became pregnant.

“She explained that the stepfather started raping her when the mother gave birth through Caesarean Section (CS) and had to spend about three (3) weeks in the hospital leaving her and the stepfather at home.

“According to her, the stepfather used to have carnal knowledge of her at home when her Mother was away and oftentimes lured her into the farm to defile after which he would threaten her never to tell anyone or face the consequence.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime and claimed it was the handwork of the devil.”

The kidnapped retired Chief Pharmacist with the Ekiti Ministry of Health, Chief Israel Bamisaye, has regained freedom after the payment of N4.5 million ransom.

Chief Bamisaye was kidnapped around 4pm while working on his farm on Thursday.

A family confirmed to journalists on Saturday, that the victim paid a sum of 4.5 million naira ransom to regain freedom.

He was said to have been kidnapped by seven gun wielding men along his farm located between Ero Dam and the Ekiti State farm settlement located at Orin Ekiti, Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

The source said: “The Pharmacist paid N4.5m ransom. The initial amount was a sum of N10m, but it was negotiated to that level”.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, DSP Sunday Abutu, who confirmed his release ,  said the man was let off the hook  around 10pm on Friday evening.

Mr Abutu said the abductee was  released at Obbo Ayegunle, a border town in Kwara State.

“He was freed at Obbo Ayegunle in Kwara State. Our men and the local hunters as well as Amotekun operatives were inside the bush searching for him for over 27 hours before he was located.”

“Our people would have to be security-conscious. That is the first thing to do to get rid of criminals”.

“They should also give the police and other security agencies good information that we can work with, we can’t do it alone”, Abutu added.
