Operatives of the Ekiti State Police Command have arrested five persons for alleged fake kidnapping and conspiracy.

The suspects were said to have arranged a fake kidnapping to extort money but luck ran against them.

The spokesperson for Ekiti State Police Command, Mr Sunday Abutu who confirmed this in a statement in Ado-Ekiti, vowed that the suspects would be prosecuted.

According to the statement, ”the command received a complaint from one Adelana Ayomikun that his wife, Adelana Oyetuyi, his twin sister, Odeyemi Kehinde and his three children of one, two and three years were kidnapped by unknown armed men along Ise/Ikere-Ekiti road”.

Mr Abutu said the complainant further narrated that the kidnappers made contact with him through a telephone call and demanded a ransom of one hundred million naira.

The police spokesperson said the Command Rapid Response Squad detectives were led to the hideout of the suspects in Ikirun, Osun State, where it was discovered that the callers were the supposed victims.

The suspects arrested in connection with the crime are, Adelana Taiwo, Odeyemi Kehinde, Alhaji Oseni Isah, Azeez Mistura and Hammed Wasiu.

He said during interrogation, the suspects confessed that they planned and staged the kidnapping to enable them to get some money to pay the debt incurred by Adelana Taiwo and Odeyemi Kehinde.

Ekiti State Police Command has arrested six suspected cultists in Oye-Ekiti after a tip-off by members of the public.

According to the command’s image maker, Mr Sunday Abutu, the suspects, who had confessed to the crime, claimed to be students of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti.

He said the command received credible information that some members of “Denorsemen Secret Cult Group” were holding a meeting at their hideout in Oye-Ekiti and they were arrested.

“Upon the receipt of the information, the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad mobilized to the scene where six suspected cultists were nabbed.

The suspects are; Omole Paul (21), Okoro Wisdom (22), David Makinlola (20), Egbabo Kester (22), Raymond Ejekwu (21) and Daniel Chiwumba (28).

“Items recovered from the suspects at the scene are:, Two cutlasses, One hammer, two cups of loud hemp, wraps of substance suspected to be Indian hemp and charms.”

On his part, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr Tunde Mobayo maintained that the arrested suspects would be prosecuted accordingly.

Mr Mobayo implored parents and guardians to always emphasize the dangers of cultism and other criminal activities to their children and wards.

Unknown gunmen have attacked the Elewu of Ewu Ekiti, Oba Adetutu Ajayi while travelling between his town (Ewu) and Ayetoro Ekiti.

The spokesperson for Ekiti State Police Command, Mr Sunday Abutu confirmed this to newsmen in Ado Ekiti.

Mr Abutu said the monarch who was shot around seven o clock in the night yesterday had been taken to an hospital for treatment.

He said the command in conjunction with Amotekun Corps, Vigilante and local hunters had combed bushes and forests in the area to rescue the Royal Father. 

 He gave an assurance that the perpetrators would be brought to book.

Mr Abutu said that the Command would continue to work with relevant security outfits to reduce crime to bear minimum in the state.

The PPRO, however, wished the Elewu of  Ewu Ekiti a quick recovery and implored  anyone with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators and other criminal elements in the society to inform the nearest police station or call 08062335577.

Many people could not hold back their tears on Wednesday in Ikere Ekiti, as the remains of the female police officer, Bukola Okawaye, who was murdred during Bye-Election in Omuo Ekiti was laid to rest.

The police officer was among those shot dead by some political thugs during the poll.

Speaking at the burial ceremony, Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr Tunde Mobayo, noted that the late officer was highly dedicated to duty during her lifetime and prayed God to grant the family she left behind fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Also, sympathizers at the burial sought justice for the officer and urged state government to offer more assistance to her children.

The late officer was killed at the age of thirty-three.

Meanwhile, three persons have been remanded in the correctional centre in connection with the Omuo killings.

A State Intelligence Bureau, SIB, officer attached to the Aramoko Division of the Ekiti State Police Command has been crushed to death by a motorist between Efon and Aramoko Ekiti in Ekiti State.

It was gathered that the police officer was on his way to office when the incident happened.

The driver of the vehicle who also sustained critical injury is said to be receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

Sympathizers confirmed that the officer works at Aramoko but resides in Efon Alaaye with his family.

The Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Sunday Abutu who confirmed the incident explained that investigation had commenced to ascertain the cause of the crash for necessary action.

The Nigeria Police, Ekiti State Command has declared one Samuel Oguntoyinbo wanted for allegedly involving in a series of bank robberies and kidnappings in Ekiti and Ondo states in recent times.

The command, in a statement by its spokesperson, Mr Sunday Abutu placed five million naira as reward for whosoever has information that leads to the arrest of the suspected criminal.

According to the statement, Samuel Ogunyoyinbo, who is an indigene of Iyin Ekiti in Irepodun/ Ifelodun Local government Area had allegedly perpetrated series of heinous crimes in Ekiti and Ondo states.

Mr Abutu explained that the suspect real name is Samuel Oguntoyinbo but he is popularly called “Eleven or Badoo”

He advised anyone with useful information on Samuel Oguntoyinbo’s whereabouts to contact the nearest Police Station or the Special Anti-Robbery Squad Department on 07031620186 or the PPRO on 09064050086.

He made it clear that the police were resolute in bringing the suspected criminal to book because lives were lost and large monies were carted away in robbery incidents traced to him.

A new commissioner of police today assumed duty in Ekiti state.

He is Mr Mobayo Babatunde, an indigene of Kogi State.

Mr Babatunde replaced Mr Amba Asuquo who was recently elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector General, AIG of police.

At a meeting with officers of the Ekiti State Police Command, the new CP reiterated his readiness to work in accordance with the vision and objectives of the community policing policy introduced by the Inspector General of Police, Mr Adamu Mohammed.

Mr Babatunde told them that he would prioritize professionalism, honesty, transparency, firmness, and dedication to duty.

The new CP who promised to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor, Mr Amba Asuquo, said the command under his leadership would partner relevant agencies and bodies to ensure adequate protection of lives and property in the state.

Mr Babatunde sought full cooperation of members of the public by giving useful and timely information to enable the command to rid Ekiti of all forms of criminal activities.
