A State Intelligence Bureau, SIB, officer attached to the Aramoko Division of the Ekiti State Police Command has been crushed to death by a motorist between Efon and Aramoko Ekiti in Ekiti State.

It was gathered that the police officer was on his way to office when the incident happened.

The driver of the vehicle who also sustained critical injury is said to be receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

Sympathizers confirmed that the officer works at Aramoko but resides in Efon Alaaye with his family.

The Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Sunday Abutu who confirmed the incident explained that investigation had commenced to ascertain the cause of the crash for necessary action.

Some suspected armed robbers today raided a new generation bank at Iyin Ekiti.

Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Sunday Abutu told Radio Nigeria in Ado Ekiti that officers of the command engaged the suspected armed robbers numbering about ten in a gun battle.

Mr Abutu explained that the suspects who could not withstand firepower of the police left their vehicles and ran into bush.

He stated that officers were still combing the bush to arrest the criminals saying that he could not confirm the total amount of money carted away by the robbers.

Mr Abutu however said there was no casualty during the robbery incident.

Meanwhile, some residents of Iyin Ekiti told radio Nigeria that the suspected robbers shot to the air to scare them away during the robbery.

They also said the armed robbers used dynamites to destroy the doors of the bank before making away with an undisclosed amount of money.

The residents also expressed displeasure that it took the police almost one hour from Ado Ekiti to neighbouring Iyin Ekiti which allowed the daredevil armed robbers escape.
