The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has appealed to the Federal Government to help solve the ecological problems affecting Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital. 

Oba Ladoja made the appeal during a visit to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator George Akume, in Abuja office.

According to the statement issued and signed by his Media Aide, Chief Adeola Oloko, the Olubadan, who is the Chairman, Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, acknowledged the previous interventions of the Federal Government and World Bank on Ogunpa channelisation.

The royal father, however, added that the Ogunpa ecological problem gained more prominence because the areas affected are elitist areas stretching from Mokola, Ekotedo, Ogunpa, Oke Ado, to Molete.

He called on the Federal Government to extend its support in addressing the environmental threats confronting his subjects in Oranyan, Kudeti Agbongbon, and other parts of the historic city.

The trial, suffering and crucifixion of Jesus Christ was brought to the fore through its demonstration by some youths of the Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Oke Padre, Ibadan.

Speaking on the significance of Good Friday, the administrator of the Saint Mary’s Cathedral, The Very Reverend Felix Akiode, said the genuine love of Jesus Christ for mankind demonstrated in his death on the cross should manifest in the love for one another in Nigeria.

At the Methodist Church Nigeria, Ekotedo, the congregants were admonished to thirst towards God and cater to the wellbeing of less-privileged citizens.

The moment was also used to pray for Nigeria, Oyo State, Ibadan, and traditional and political leaders in the country.

In an interview, the cleric in charge of the church, Very Reverend Solomon Ogunyebo said Nigerians in the face of the current unpalatable economic situation should endure saying the hardship would not last.

The cleric condemned the present harsh economic and insecurity and emphasized the need for Nigeria’s political leaders to be urgent in addressing the socio-economic crises in the country.

Very Reverend Ogunyebo who expressed optimism on the better future of Nigeria, however, said Nigerians must pray for their leaders and the country in general to bring about the kind of country we all desire.
