Eight members of staff of the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The Head, Public Relations and Information, of the Centre, Mr Segun Orisajo who made this known in a statement, explained that those affected included medical doctors, nurses and administrative staff.

Mr Orisajo pointed out that the staff were part of the team which had contact with a two and half year-old girl currently receiving treatment at the Centre’s Isolation ward.

He said the Covid-19 positive status of the affected staff was detected during the round of contact tracing carried out by the hospital’s Infection Control Team, stating that none of the staff had so far exhibited any symptom of corona virus.

The hospital’s spokesperson pointed out that the Medical Director, Professor Adewale Musa-Olomu had directed said though they had been asymptomatic, the 8 members of staff should proceed on self-isolation to receive basic  treatment.

He stated that the medical director prayed God for the quick recovery of the staff and expressed confidence that they would soon return to their duty post, while assuring residents about the safety of the centre, both for the workers and patients.

Two new cases of Covid-19 has been reported at the Federal Medical Centre Idi-Aba Abeokuta, Ogun State.

A statement by the Head of Public Relations, Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba Abeokuta, Mr Femi Orisajo indicates that the two adult male patients who came from lagos axis visited the Centre’s Accident and Emergency Unit on Saturday 16th May 2020 .

Mr Orisajo said the results of the patients who on arrival were isolated from other patients returned positive confirming the earlier suspicion by the care- givers.

He added that arrangements are being finalized for their movement to the Ogun State Isolation Centre in Ikenne.

Reacting to the incident, the Medical Director, Professor Adewale Musa- Olomu assured members of the public not to panic as all personnel who treated the Covid-19 confirmed patients took necessary precautionary measures.
