The Ondo State Police Command has begun a forensic investigation into Sunday’s church attack in Owo to ascertain the actual or remote cause(s) of the attack and for immediate arrest of the assailants.

A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, Funmi Odunlami says as all hands are on deck to forestall any similar attack in any part of the state.

According to the Police, a Preliminary investigation reveals that the assailants approached the church during the service, and started shooting from outside the church while others numbering about four shot directly into the church.

Over twenty people reportedly lost their lives and many were injured when gunmen invaded St Francis Catholic Church Owo on Sunday.

The incident cut short Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s party assignment in Abuja as the governor immediately rushed back to Owo.

Meanwhile, the state government has ordered the immediate deployment of armed and specialized Policemen to the area to restore normalcy and fortify the entire community.

It was a black day when a 26 year old son, Godwin Matthew machetted his 64 year old father, Matthew Audu to death in Akure, the Ondo state for giving him the head of a chicken killed to entertain his younger brother.

The state police command spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami in a statement in Akure said that the murder incident was reported at the Ala Police state by the wife of the deceased.

Odunlami said on 9th September, 2021, a case of Murder was reported at Ala Divisional Headquarters by one Mrs. Christiana Audu Matthew that her son Godwin Matthew, 26 years old left home with his father to the family’s farm.

She said lt was later discovered that the young man had machetted his father to death.

According to the PPRO, ln the course of interrogation, the suspect stated that on 9th September, 2021, his late father directed him to kill a chicken for his brother one Emmanuel Audu, 7 years old, for his entertainment, meanwhile, it was only the chicken head that was given to him and this made him to kill his father.

The police spokesperson added that the Suspect confessed to the commission of the crime.

Mrs Odunlami, also said that a 64 year old man, Ajayi Awe has been arrested for defiling a six year old girl.
