The Ondo State House of Assembly has passed into law the 2022 Budget of over One Hundred and Ninety-Nine point Two Billion Naira.

The budget after scrutiny and defence by Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs by the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, headed by Mr Sunday Olajide had an increment of about Seven Billion Naira from initial over One Hundred and Ninety-One point Six Billion Naira submitted to the House by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

The budget has a provision of over One Hundred and Twelve point Nine Billion Naira as Recurrent Expenditure and over Eighty-Five point Six Billion Naira as Capital Expenditure for the services of Ondo State of Nigeria for the year ending 31st December 2022.

The Lawmakers at the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun recommended among others things that MDAs should ensure that the provisions of the Budget are applied to the needs stated therein.

According to the House, in order to attain the target for the internally generated revenue for the year ahead, the State Government should take all necessary steps that will propel all income-generating MDAs to embark on more result-oriented internally generated revenue drive in line with extant Laws.

The Lawmakers urged the State Internally Revenue Service to identify all sources of Revenue leakages and ensure that measures are put in place to block all these leakages.

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State government has advocated the scrapping of the Senate to reduce cost of governance.

Governor Akeredolu spoke in Akure at the opening of the House of Representatives Special Committee on constitution Review, South West Zonal Public Hearing, Akure Center comprising Ondo, Ekiti and Osun States.

Governor Akeredolu represented by the Deputy Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa pointed out that the scrapping of the National Assembly and the ministries would provide more funds for developmental projects in the country.

Speaking on the current state of insecurity, Governor Akeredolu pointed out that establishing state police would address many problems facing the nation.

The governor therefore advised the Constitutional Review Committee members not to play politics with the exercise.

In a submission, Chairman, Ondo State Council of Traditional rulers, Ọbá Fredrick Akinruntan represented by Oba Yusuf Adeleye frowned at the 1999 constitution, saying it was the bedrock of Nigeria problems.

Also speaking, Ekiti State NULGE President, Comrade Oluseyi Olatunde who represented the labour leaders for the states urged the National Assembly to consider the aspirations of the people.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Chairman, House Special Committee on Constitution Review, Deputy Speaker Ahmed Idris Wase, represented by Mr Peter Akpatason pledged that the exercise would look into the various views of the people.

Various groups presented papers on how the country could be governed well.

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has raised alarm over the increasing number of illegal immigrants flooding into the country through the land borders.

He made this known while receiving the Assistant Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service, Zone F, who is in charge of Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti States, Dora Amahian in his office in Akure.

Governor Akeredolu observed that Nigeria would continue to be at loss going by the series of criminalities being perpetrated by the illegal immigrants in the country.

Governor Akeredolu who recommended urgent collaboration among the security agencies pledged the Ondo State’s continual support to tackle the menace of illegal foreigners turning themselves to permanent residents in the country.

Describing security as the responsibility of all, Assistant Comptroller General Dora Amahian said the service had a border corps on ground to arrest the illegal immigrants aside the ongoing e-registration of the foreigners.
