Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has announced the Executive Chairman of Oyo Housing Corporation Chief Bayo Lawal as his running mate in the 2023 governorship election.

Governor Makinde announced Chief Bayo Lawal at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, leaders and stakeholders meeting held at Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.

The governor said, having consulted with leaders, they resolved to nominate   Kishi born lawyer from Irepo local government area of Oyo state. 

The chairman of Peoples Democratic Party in the state,Mr Dayo Ogungbenro who later addressed newsmen at the end of the meeting maintained that the choice of Chief Lawal is good for the party considering his experience in politics and other areas.


Mr Ogungbenro however re-emphasized that, the deputy governor of Oyo state Engineer Rauf Olaniyan still remained the deputy governor of the state .

Also in an lnterview, Chief Bayo Lawal, pledged his loyalty to the governor of Oyo state,Engineer Seyi makinde, the party and urged people of Oyo state to support the present administration in its strive to develop the state.

Chief Lawal pleaded to all the leaders of Oke-Ogun and all the people of Oyo state to ensure they give their maximum support to present government.

Ten thousand, two hundred and sixty, (10,260) ad-hoc staff and personnel of INEC are to be engaged for the conduct of the  June 18 Governorship election in Ekiti State.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Adeniran Tella made this known to newsmen in Ado Ekiti after a road-show where residents of the state capital were sensitized on the need to be peaceful during the coming election.

He explained that the personnel which comprises, INEC staff, Corps Members and some Youths were being trained ahead of the exercise.

Dr Tella also announced that ninety five percent of the non sensitive materials had been dispatched to the sixteen local Government Areas while the sensitize ones would arrive a day to the exercise.

The REC charged people of Ekiti State not to hesitate to come out enmasse during the election and also be peaceful to ensure a hitch free poll.

He made it clear that INEC would work with the police and sister security agencies to deliver Violent free election in Ekiti State.

However, some of the residents of the areas visited in Fajuyi, Okeisa, Ojumose, Okeiyinmi and Oja oba  areas of Ado Ekiti said all eyes were on INEC, hence it must live up to the expectations.

As political campaigns hit top gear in Osun State in the build-up to the governorship election, the state governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola wants politicians to be peaceful in their preparations.

Governor Oyetola stated this while answering questions from newsmen shortly after the Eid Prayer in Osogbo.

The governor, who noted that development could only thrive in a peaceful atmosphere, stressed the need to eschew violence and do-or-die politics.

“I want to implore the politicians to play according to the rules. Politics should not be a do or die affair. We should ensure we maintain decorum, we maintain peace when we start our campaign”.

Governor Oyetola noted that it was important for politicians and their supporters to play according to the rules by maintaining decorum before, during, and after the election.

He also appealed to residents to maintain peace calling on youths never to be instruments of political violence as the society relies on them for a great future.

Ahead of the gubernatorial poll holding in Ondo State this Saturday, political gladiators in the state have been enjoined to respect the peace accord signed this Tuesday with the National Peace Committee.

The National Council of Muslim Youth Organizations (NACOMYO )Southern zone in a statement jointly signed by Mas’ud Akintola and Abdul Azeez Babalola, acting Chairman and Secretary respectively reminded the candidates that sovereignty belongs to God and He gives it to whomsoever He pleases, hence they should play the game according to the rules. 

The Council called on both the INEC and the law enforcement agencies not only to ensure a level-playing ground for the contestants but to remain impartial till the end. 

The statement further implored the electorates to do better than below 26 percent turnout recorded in Edo poll as staying at home when decision about who governs them is being taken could spell doom on them. 

NACOMYO appealed to all men of goodwill to pray for a credible, peaceful and fair poll in the state on Saturday.  

In another development, the apex Muslim youth body considered the appointment of Agbelesebioba Olamilekan Moshood, a.k a Laycon, winner of “Big Brothers Naija (BBN) lockdown edition as ambassador of youth as promoting erosion of moral values by Ogun state government. He was also given cash and a 3-bedroom bungalow. 

The gateway Governor has by this latest action dealth a big blow on intellectual attainment and ingenuity, the statement concluded.
