Abomege Police Station in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has been attacked by suspected bandits with a police officer critically injured.

An Eyewitness, who pleaded to be anonymous, told Radio Nigeria that the attack occurred in the night.

He explained that police officers at the station repelled the attackers as they neither gained entry into the premises nor set the station ablaze.

Efforts to get the reaction of the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs Loveth Oda was not successful as calls to her were not answered.

Suspected bandits have been attacking police stations in Ebonyi State since late last year, claiming the lives of many police officers and setting some stations ablaze.

A 45-year-old man, Femi Ola -Abraham, has been abducted by  some gunmen at Oke Arinsa bridge, Konko Village, in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State

According to a source, the incident  occurred at about 7:30am while the victim and two others were in the area on a journey from Ibadan.

Two other passengers in the vehicle identified as Olawunmi Michael, and Jeje Abiola escaped the attack.

The incident had been reported at Ayete police station while the officers  on duty were said to have moved to the scene of the crime .

The officers were able to recover the victims’ white Nissan vehicle with registration number LSD 338 XK .

The two escapees have been taken to a hospital in the town by the police, for medical evaluation and treatment.

Efforts to speak with the state police PPRO, DSP Adewale Osifeso, for confirmation of the story proved abortive, as his phone line could not be reached

Two nurses were kidnapped on Thursday by Gunmen at the General hospital in Idon of Kajuru Local Government.

The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Shingyu Shamnom, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, disclosed that the bandits stormed the general hospital through the fence with deadly weapons.

According to him, while the bandits shot sporadically in the premises of the hospital, two nurses on night duty came out to identify themselves as medical workers and the bandits took them away.

The executive chairman of Kajuru local government area, Cafra Casino, also confirmed the kidnap of the two nurses from Kajuru General Hospital.

He said investigation was ongoing on the matter and urged people in the area to remain calm.

The Obadu of Ilemeso, Ekiti in Oye Local Government of Ekiti State, Oba David Oyewumi has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

Oba Oyewumi was said to have been kidnapped late last night at his palace.

According to report, the abductors of the monarch numbering six were said to have scaled the fence of his palace and shot sporadically before whisking away the Oba to unknown destination.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Police Command, Mr Sunday Abutu confirmed the abduction of the monarch to Radio Nigeria.

Mr Abutu said investigation had commenced on the matter while some officers had also been deployed to the community to rescue the monarch and as well arrest the suspected kidnappers.

The abduction of Oba David Oyewumi is coming barely a week when the Elewu of Ewu Ekiti, Oba Adetutu Ajayi was shot by some gunmen between Ewu and Ayetoro-Ekiti.

Just last week, unknown gunmen also abducted the manager of a petrol station in Isan Ekiti, Mr Itakodoro, Adebayo and up till now he had not been released.

Meanwhile, the Chairman, Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, the Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, Oba Adebanji  Alabi has called on the police to swing into action and rescue the kidnapped Obadu of Ilemeso Ekiti, Oba David Oyewumi.

Speaking in his palace in Ilawe-Ekiti on behalf of all traditional rulers in the  state, the Alawe, who described the situation as embarrassing and  worrisome, urged the police to increase patrols both day and night to stop kidnappers from having free movement in Ekiti. 

The monarch suggested that more personnel should be recruited into the Amotekun corps in addition to equipping the security outfit with modern  gadgets in order to monitor all routes and forests in the state.

The chairman of Ekiti traditional rulers further called for the deployment of soldiers to the state to support other security outfits in flushing out all kidnappers from Ekiti forests and other hideouts. 

Oba Alabi urged members of the various communities in Ekiti to always give useful and timely information on unusual movements of strange faces to security agents.

Two security guards working a filling station on custom junction , Ondo road Akure have been killed by unknown gunmen
speaking with Radio Nigeria, one of the filling station supervisors, Mr Buhari Ashiru said the forty-five year old Israel and the other security man were found drenched in their pool of blood around five thirty in this morning when other workers resumed duty.
Mr Ashiru explained that one of the security men who was twenty eight years old had just spent two days at the filling station
The Station supervisor disclosed that the perpetrators attempted breaking into the filling station safe inside the store.

Gunmen have again invaded Gurnana community in Shiroro Local Government Council of Niger State killing one person and abducting ten others.

Guranana was invaded in broad daylight as the gunmen who stormed the community in their large number on motorcycles shooting sporadically into the air and were said by the villagers to execute their mission freely without any resistance due to the absence of any security outfit in that area.

Houses and food stuff belonging to the villagers were set ablaze by the gunmen during the operation after which they were said to have headed back to the forests where they allegedly came from.

When contacted on phone Co-Convener of Shiroro Youths Association Yusuf Abubakar Koki confirmed the incident and called for urgent and concerted efforts by all and sundry to address the recurring invasion by gunmen.

All efforts to contact the Police for comment over the development were unsuccessful.

Owerri correctional service and Police headquarters in Owerri have been attacked.

People suspected to be members of the eastern security network invaded the correctional service headquarters around 1.00 am today, freed inmates before setting the office ablaze and vehicles ablaze.

Many inmates were freed while vehicles and some office buildings at the service were set ablaze by the hoodlums.

A lifeless body of a man carrying a luggage was seen lying in front of the entrance gate to the correctional service.

The Public Relations Officer of the Service in the State Mr. James Madugba has confirmed the incident and said the service would brief journalists in due course.

Similarly, detainees at the Police headquarters Owerri were released by the gunmen while more than twenty vehicles parked at the headquarters were either burnt or destroyed.

The first entrance gate to the Government House Owerri was riddled by bullets while window glasses of a security house close to the gate were shattered.

The Public Relations Officer Imo state Police Command SP. Orlando Ikeokwu has also confirmed the attacks and said he would brief newsmen on the incident later.

Residents are calling on security agents to rise to the emerging security challenges in the area.

Two Chinese farmers have been abducted at Oba community in Obafemi- Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State

Report says the expatriates are working with a fishery and poultry company in Oba area when gunmen attacked the farm shooting into the air and took away the Chinese nationals.

The Ogun State Police Command spokesman, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the incident, said investigation had commenced to locate and rescue the victims.

He explained that preliminary report showed that the abductors accessed the farm in Oba community through the Ogun river and also escaped through same route.

Three persons have been kidnapped by some suspected gunmen at Alabameji Village, Sanyo area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the victims included a male farmer and a couple who were also farmers were abducted while working inside their farm.

The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi who confirmed the abduction of the farmers said investigations have commenced into the circumstances surrounding the kidnap.

He also disclosed that the police are on the trail of the suspects.

A farm customer had been reportedly shot dead by some gunmen at Fiditi area of Oyo State.

 The security guard of the farm was also abducted.

The gunmen had invaded Living Yield Farms in Fiditi Town, Oyo State at about 5:45p.m last Wednesday.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the gunmen, seven in number, arrived at the farm at the time the workers were closing for the day.

With five of them armed with AK-47 rifles and other guns, it was learnt that they searched for victims to kidnap, with one of them targeting the farm manager, Mr Adelakun Sunday, at the time he was about leaving his office.

The manager was however able to flee but the security guard, an indigene of Plateau State, called Felix, was not so lucky as he  was  taken away by the abductors.

It was gathered that the owner of the farm was not around, as it was learnt that he had travelled.

The deceased, who was said to have come to the farm on his Bajaj motorcycle, had bought two dead chickens, which he had put in a sack, before he met his death.

However, the security man was said to have escaped from his abductors yesterday morning without payment of any ransom as he escaped when the abductors were sleeping.

When contacted, the state police spokesman, CSP Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the story, attributing the escape of the victim to pressure put on the abductors by the police, through continuous search for the criminals who tried to hide to evade arrest.

He said that the body of the deceased had been deposited in mortuary at State Hospital, Oyo, for autopsy, while investigation had commenced into the incident.

Some gunmen have stormed a quarry site in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital and kidnapped two people.

DAILY POST gathered on Tuesday that the gunmen stormed the quarry site located along Ijebu-Ode / Ibadan Road and kidnapped the victims on Monday.

Our correspondent gathered from a source that one Mr. Popoola Isaac, a staff of RCC and Mr. Ismail Adeoye, a staff of Polaris Bank were the two abducted.

he incident occurred at Dalli Village (Binu Quarry), along Ibadan – Ijebu-Ode Road.

The case has been reported at the Idi Ayunre police station.

Our correspondent gathered that the kidnap of the duo is coming a few months after some gunmen stormed a quarry site at Akinyele local government area in Ibadan and kidnapped some workers.

Public Relations Officer of the State Police command, Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi confirmed the abduction.

Fadeyi told DAILY POST on Tuesday that efforts have been intensified to get the victims released.

Fadeyi said, “Efforts intensified to get them released and also arrest the abductors.”

Two female students of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ayetoro campus in Yewa-North Local Government Area of Ogun State were, on Sunday night, reportedly kidnapped .

The victims, identified as Adeyemo Precious and Oyefule Abiola, are students at the departments of Forestry and Wildlife Management and Agricultural Economics respectively.

They were reported to have been abducted in front of their hostel on Sunday night at Olowu area of Ayetoro .

A source who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that the abductors have reached out to the families and demanded a sum of N50m for the release of the students.

The source, however, said the abductors linked up with the relatives of the victims through their (students’) phones .

When asked whether the abductors were Fulani herdsmen or not , the source said it was the kidnapped students that spoke with their families and not the abductors.

“The kidnappers have not spoken with the families. It was the students that spoke and echoed the demands. We don’t know whether they are Yoruba or Fulani because the families have not heard directly from the abductors.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said he was in a meeting and promised to get back to our correspondent after the meeting.

As of the time of filing this report, Oyeyemi had not got in touch with our correspondent.

Meanwhile , the Yewa North Patriotic Forum has called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to direct the Commissioner of Police to relocate to Yewa-North over the issue of insecurity.

Th group said that Yewa local government had been battling with herders and farmers’ crisis that had reportedly claimed many lives in the last few months.

President of the group, Sanni Omobolaji, in a statement issued on Monday over the kidnapping noted that Ayetoro area has not been enjoying proper policing.

The statement reads in part, “We have not been enjoying good policing in Ayetoro since the former DPO died a few months back. Since then, a new DPO has not been deployed to the area, while the DCO who has been acting in the capacity of DPO has not been cooperative with our people.

“We, however, demand an immediate redeployment of the DCO, else, we might take that as an act of sabotage by the police.”

Also, the state chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Mr. Adeyemi Samson, begged Governor Abiodun to ensure security of students in Ogun West.

“Our governor must embark on a fact finding mission now, so as to see things for himself because the security situation in Ogun West is terrible.

“We also beg the commissioner of police to move to Ogun West to restore normalcy in the area.”

Samson also said that if the area is searched effectively, the culprits might still be apprehended and the students released safely.

Unidentified gunmen have struck again in Cross River State, killing some policemen at two checkpoints and carting away their rifles.

It was gathered that the attacks took place in the early hours of Wednesday at Ofatura and Onyadama in Obubra Local Government Area of the state.

Initial reports indicated that six policemen and a soldier manning another checkpoint lost their lives during the attacks.

The state Police Command confirmed the incident but debunked the casualty figure, saying two cops lost their lives, while a third one was injured.

Speaking with our Correspondent, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo said, “It is not six. It was two of our men that were shot and two guns taken away. One was injured. They tried to attack other divisions but they didn’t succeed. It was in Obubra that they succeeded.”

The latest attacks happened a week after four policemen were gunned down in Calabar at a checkpoint and two of their rifles taken away.

Three persons have been killed by unknown gunmen in Idere Community, Ibarapa Central Local Government Area of Oyo state.

According to the secretary, Farmers Association, Ibarapa Zone, Mr Taiwo Adeagbo, six gunmen attacked the CEO of Subawah Filling Station, Mrs Sherifatu Adisa on Igboora-Idere road, abducted her and later took her life.

Mr Adeagbo said the other two victims are 9-year-old girls who happened to be cousins.

The girls had only gone to buy fuel at the station not knowing that the assailants were operating when they were shot and they died on the spot.

Corroborating the story, the chairman, Ibarapa Farmers Association, Mr Daniel Olubukola- Sunday said the mother of one of the children that were killed was also attacked and is presently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Idere.

In a related development, owner of a private hospital in the area, one Dr Akin dele, has also been kidnapped and his whereabouts is currently unknown.

Reacting, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Nwachukwu Ewonwu said some suspects have been arrested while investigations into the incident has commenced.

A middle-aged businessman, Oke Falola, popularly known as Falola Hotel was yesterday night assassinated by unknown gunmen in Ilesa Osun State. 

Falola, who is the proprietor of Falola Rentals and Falola Hotel in Ilesa was shot dead at close range some meters away from his house at about half past nine yesterday’s night. 

It was gathered that the assailants, who were two in number, allegedly chased their victim with a Gincheng motorcycle and fled the scene having carried out their mission.

Commenting on the incident, a Police Officer who preferred anonymity, said the police got a distress call from a resident of Fadahunsi late in the night and took the corpse to mortuary at the Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa.

Meanwhile Sympathizers have started trooping to his residence to console his family.

Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in Oyo State, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi has debunked the rumour circulating that some gunmen invaded a police station in Ibadan.

Mr Fadeyi, while briefing Radio Nigeria on the incident, said two police officers were on the opposite road of the station checking vehicles when an unknown gunmen caught the officers unawares as they shot sporadically into them, killing one on the spot.

He stated further that the gunmen could not be arrested as they hurriedly escaped in the vehicle that brought them and left with the riffle of the dead officer.

The police spokesman noted that one officer died while the other one sustained injuries

Mr Fadeyi said immediately the incident occurred, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Nwachuku Enwonwu, deployed officers and men to all the black spots in Ibadan to ensure the arrest of the gunmen who were at large.

Mr Fadeyi therefore implored the members of the public with useful information on how to arrest the gunmen, to contact any police for quick response.

He added that people should not be panic but go about their lawful businesses as the Police would continue to protect lives and property of the citizens.
