The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC says it will incorporate call and text messages into the strategies to contact people who have not collected their Permanent Voters Card, PVCs.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Oyo State, Dr. Mutiu Agboke made this known at the stakeholders meeting Ibadan/Ibarapa Zone at Mapo Hall, Ibadan.

Dr. Agboke who stated that Ibadan North local government has the highest number of uncollected Permanent Voters Card, PVCs said the commission would always relate with political parties and not factional groups to create awareness about Continuous Voters’ Registration, CVR, which is a prelude to elections.

He emphasized the need for Nigerians to complete their registration process at various INEC local government offices after the online pre-registration exercise.

The Electoral Officer, Ibarapa East Local Government, Mr. Adedapo Aderibigbe while speaking on behalf of all INEC electoral officers in Oyo State said the forum was part of the commission’s voters’ education programme to ensure credible elections in 2023.

In their goodwill messages, member representing Ibadan North East/Ibadan South East Federal Constituency, Mr. Abass Agboworin, member representing Ibadan North State Constituency 2, Mr. Adebayo Babajide and chairman, Ibadan North West, Alhaji Ramon Adepoju promised to mobilise people in their constituencies to register and collect their PVCs, urging religious leaders to always remind adherents to perform their civic responsibility.

The Divisional Police Officer, Ashi, Ibadan, Mrs. Rose Okonkwo restated that the police and other security agencies would continue to be partners in progress in the electoral process.

The highlight of the programme was a drama to sensitize Nigerians on the importance of registration, collection of PVCs, avoid double registration and transfer of voting.

The Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, OYHA, Mr. Adebo Ogundoyin has applauded the peaceful conduct of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP Ward Congress in Ibarapa Zone. 

Mr. Ogundoyin stated this at Ward 2 in Ibarapa East Local Government shortly after participating at the congress. 

He said it was a good development for the ruling party in the state, as the security operatives at venues of the congress in the whole of Ibarapa Zone had virtually nothing to do as everything went smoothly without any hitch.

The speaker who is a member of the Oyo State PDP 2021 Local Organizing Committee for the congress, commended members of the party across the zone for conducting themselves peacefully.

“I want to commend members of our party in Ibarapa East Local Government particularly and even the whole zone generally for demonstrating a high level of political maturity, comportment and loyalty. This was evident in the peaceful and orderly manner they conducted themselves during and after the Congress. I was at all the ten wards in Ibarapa East Local Government and there was no record of any violence whatsoever”.

“It was the same story across the zone. There was no report of any parallel Ward Congress in my zone. This shows we are one PDP family in Ibarapa zone and I believe the issue of the faction is being addressed at the highest hierarchy of our party in the State”. He said

Mr. Ogundoyin assured that the party would soon resolve some of the issues raised by some aggrieved members across the state.

He stressed that the governor has promised to seek amicable resolutions to all the issues raised by them.  

“Leaders have emerged from our various wards and this will further strengthen our party across the state. With this, Oyo PDP is good to go. I therefore congratulate our newly elected ward executive members for their victory and I pray to God to make it the beginning of more outstanding feats for our great party”.

The INEC Representative from Abuja who was in Ibarapa, Mr. Aliu G. Aliu while commenting on the Ward Congress in the zone, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise.

The Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency OYACA has on Wednesday commissioned its Ibarapa Zonal office, which is located in Eruwa, Ibarapa East local government.

The zonal offices, among five of its kinds in the State will be a point of collection of petitions and complaints about corruption, fraud and administrative irregularities in the State and local government systems.

This was made known by the Chairman OYACA, Honourable Justice Eni Esan during the agency’s sensitisation campaign at Eruwa today.

Eni Esan emphasized that the essence of the location of the zonal offices is to give the People of Oyo State the opportunity to have access to administrative justice, which is free and fair and to nip in the bud all corrupt practices in the State.

She stated further that the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde has Zero tolerance for corruption and administrative practice.

“This is part of the state government’s activities to flush out all bad eggs in the State, in all spheres of Government sectors.

“The zonal offices, part of which is the one we are commissioning today is to bring nearer to the people, the opportunity to bring to the attention of OYACA, cases of corruption and administrative irregularities.”

The chairperson OYACA reinstated that there is no place for the Agency to be compromised in any way, as all the Management members of OYACA have been investigated thoroughly by the State Government before being inaugurated into the agency’s system.

She also said that OYACA works hand in hand with other Federal Government Anti-corruption Agency like ICPC, EFCC to share ideas on how to conduct investigations on complaints about corrupt practices.

The retired Justice urged the citizens of Oyo State to lay complaints of any act of corrupt practices as the complainants are protected under the law.

She went further to solicit the cooperation of the people of Ibarapa for the agency to achieve its goals, as activities will begin at office on Wednesday September 1st, 2021.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman, Ibarapa East local government, Honourable Gbenga Obalowo commended the present administration for initiating OYACA and various other programmes, especially to eradicate corruption in the State.

He stressed further that Governor Seyi Makinde has followed due process to put an end to the activities of the corrupt individuals.

Honourable Obalowo said that the people of Eruwa and Ibarapa respect the law and will cooperate with OYACA to move the State forward.
