Additional thirty five suspects have been arrested by the police, following the violent clash between cult rival groups which led to the death of six persons alleged to   be cultists over the weekend.

The Police public Relations officer, Mr Sunday Abutu confirmed this to Radio Nigeria while giving an update on the crisis.

He said that the command now had forty five suspects in its custody having apprehended ten persons yesterday.

The PPRO made it clear that the latest thirty five suspects were arrested during night raids.

Mr Abutu observed that normalcy was gradually returning to Ikere Ekiti,  now that security operatives are patrolling the ancient town.

Radio Nigeria gathered that ten persons were killed during the cult clash but the police insisted that six bodies were found and they had been deposited in the morgue.

It was earlier reported that ten people were arrested in connection with the cult clash.

Ten persons have been arrested in connection with the bloody clash between rival cult group in Ikere Ekiti which claimed six lives.

Spokesperson for the Ekiti state police command, Mr Sunday Abutu made this known to Radio Nigeria in Ado Ekiti.

Mr Abutu said the arrest would be a continuous one, as more policemen, the military and officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence corps have been deployed to the town to restore peace to the area.

He said that bodies of the six persons killed during the cult clash had been deposited in the morgue, and urged the people of Ikere Ekiti to remain calm.

The command’s image maker also implored them to give useful information to security operatives on hideouts of those who carried out the violent attack.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the incident started on Saturday’s night when a suspected cultist was killed by a rival group which made his group to engage in a reprisal attack and shot dead five persons alleged to be cultists.
