The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibadan Zonal Command, has arrested a staff of Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Balogun Olawale, alongside 47 others for their alleged involvement in internet fraud.

The suspects were Sodiq Iremide, Abiona Solomon, Moshood Sakiru Olamide, Olalekan Sodiq Olawale, Adebayo Ifeoluwa Timilehin, Joshua Gilbert, Adeleke Oluwafemi, Lawal Yusuff Abiodun, Olaleye Adedolapo Emmanuel, Opaleye Olanrewaju, Kazeem Oladimeji, Akinlosotu Ayodeji Ayomiposi, Omowale Haruna, Akinsolotu Kolade Olayinka, Soremikun Ibrahim, Kolawole Boluwatife Daniel, Olufunkunmi Emmanuel, Olatunji Uthman Alabi, Afeez Jimoh Akorede, Lateef Abdulmujeeb Akanbi, Boladale Olajide James and Enitan Tolulope John.

Others included Orunsolu Sodiq Babatunde, Lamidi Micheal Akolade, Lateef Rahamon Olamilekan, Idowu Micheal Oluwasegun, Peter Adio Olakunle, Ahmod Kazeem Olayemi, Okewole Daniel Olayiwola, Ogundeyin Faruq Olamilekan, Edunjobi Toheeb Ayobami, Simon Dare Tosin, Ahmod Mustapha Olawale, Oladende Mubarak Olansile, Olanrewaju Kabiru Olamilekan, Olowookere Abeeb Lolade, Dolaoso Uthman Olamilekan, Kodagbese Emmanuel Aduragbemi, Simon John Seyi, Idemudia Lucky, Ahmod Waheed Olamide, Olowookere Soburu Ademola, Agboola Oladimeji Taofeek, Awoniyi Segun Gbenga, Babatunde Mathew Ayodele, Alaye John Saheed and Odediran Oluwole Ayomide.

They were arrested, on Wednesday, at the Idi-Aba area of Abeokuta following intelligence on their alleged fraudulent activities, while items recovered from them were seven exotic vehicles, several mobile phones, laptops, hi and Apple wristwatches, among others.

Also, two suspected “Yahoo boys” – Adeniji Adebayo and Ayoola Samson were arrested the same day at the Idi-Igba area of Ibadan in Oyo State by the EFCC operatives with two cars and other valuables.

The state Police command of the Nigerian Police also arrested and handed over a cybercrime suspect, Andrew Olasunkanmi, to the EFCC.

Andrew was arrested at his house on suspicion of involvement in fraudulent activities. A Honda Civic car and mobile phones were recovered from him.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Command, on Thursday, February 3, 2022, secured the conviction of the trio of Bandele Olarenwaju John, Aniyikaye Olumide Oluwatope and Chuks Ezeh Melody before Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court and Justice Sherifat Adeyemi of the State High Court,  Ibadan, for their involvement in internet fraud.

Upon their arraignment today, they pleaded “guilty” to the charges preferred against them by the EFCC.

In view of their pleas, prosecution counsel, Abdulrasheed Lanre Suleiman reviewed the facts of the cases and urged the court to convict and sentence the defendants as charged.

Justice Agomoh thereafter convicted Bandele and sentenced him to nine months imprisonment while Aniyikaye was given a six months jail term.

Justice Adeyemi convicted and sentenced Chuks to one month community service.
Bandele was ordered to give the sum of $780USD (Seven Hundred and Eighty United States Dollars) to his victim.

He was also ordered to forfeit the following items to the Federal Government: one iPhone 6,  and two HP Laptops.

The court ordered Aniyikaye to pay the sum of $1,100 (One Thousand One Hundred United States Dollars) in restitution, and forfeits two unregistered Toyota Camry 2008 and 2012 model cars.

The “Vivo and Techno F2 Mobile handsets” recovered from Chuks were equally forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The Ibadan zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested 39 internet fraud suspects, also known as ‘Yahoo-Yahoo Boys from Osun and Ogun states. 

Ten of them were arrested at Ilesha, Osun State, while Twenty-nine others were arrested in different locations at Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.

Those arrested at Ilesha are: Oyesoji Tosin, Olaniyi Emmanuel, Samson Ojo, Sodiq Sunkanmi, Kolawole Abiodun, Oluwole Gbenga, Olajuyigbe Olamide, Oyebanji Olabisi Temitope, Ayoola Oluwafemi, and Oluwatobiloba Gbadamosi .

The suspects arrested at Ago-Iwoye include Emmanuel Lawal, Kareem Olamide, Adekunle Kehinde Salawu, Bella Tijesu, Aderibigbe Adedoyin, Anifowose Hammed, Lateef Adetayo, Busari Oluwatobi, Tobi Adeyemi, Gabriel Obisesan, Oluwole Olasunkanmi and Odetola Samson.

Others are Farouq Dosu, Ayilara Akindeji, Ademola Adedare, Ishola Adeleke, Alex Olasunmade, Idowu Abolaji, Okegbenro Idris, Akinlolu Akintunde, Oshoboke Shashaeniyan, Adeyemi Opeyemi, Oluwatoyin Olutekunbi, Albert Charles, Olawuyi Olanrewaju, Tunde Adekoya, Gbolahan Olalekan, Alade Oluwasegun and Ajanaku Qudus.

The suspects were arrested after series of surveillance based on intelligence on their alleged criminal activities.

Items recovered from them include seven cars, laptop computers, mobile phones, and several documents containing false pretenses. 

They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Ibadan Zonal Office has arrested eight men suspected to be internet fraudsters in Osogbo, Osun State.

The suspects Akinrinmade Adepoju Sunday and his brother Akinrinmade Adeniyi were arrested in their room and parlor apartment in Osogbo.

Others were arrested during an early morning raid on their hideout at Ayegbami area of the ancient town.

Operatives of the EFCC had for days kept surveillance on activities around the spots following intelligence alleging illegal use of the internet for criminal acts.

Items recovered from the suspects included two cars, laptops and phones.

Justice Ibrahim Watilat of the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, Ogun State has sentenced one Festus Gbenga Ajayi, to one-year imprisonment for internet fraud.

The convict was prosecuted by the Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on one-count charge of criminal impersonation, having been arrested on October, 2019 in a raid conducted on his hideout in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Investigations conducted by the Commission linked him to series of internet-related frauds which formed the ground for his initial arraignment on eight-count charges, bordering on criminal impersonation and obtaining money by false pretence before the charges were amended to lone-count, to which he pleaded guilty.

Apart from the jail term which takes effect from the day of conviction, the judge ordered that the convict forfeits his uncompleted one-storey building, located in Ado-Ekiti, a Toyota Corolla car, one gold-colour iPhone, among other proceeds of and tools of crime to the Federal Government.

He had earlier refunded N1,400,000 (One Million, Four Hundred Thousand Naira) to the government, through the EFCC.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has, arraigned two young men, Adeyemi Dayo and Awojobi Timileyin, in Osogbo for impersonation and internet fraud. 

EFCC prosecutor, Mr AbduRasheed Sulaeman alleged that accused presented themselves as white American women.

In the case of Dayo, EFCC prosecutor told the court that he presented himself as Amazing Empire, a white female, to dupe his American victim, while Timilehin claimed to be an American from New York on medical mission to Nigeria. 

The prosecution told the court that the Timileyin collected millions of naira including 2,980 and 1,400 US dollars, 337,000, 175,000 naira among others, as part payment of his flight. 

He said the crime was contrary to Section 1(1)(a) and punishable under Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud. 

The defendant, who had pleaded not guilty to the 15 count charges of fraud preferred against him later informed the court of his decision to opt for plea bargain. 

Justice Peter Lifu consequently granted him bail in the sum of N20million with two sureties who must be blood relation or civil servants not below grade level 14 in the state or Federal Government”s service. 

He adjourned to June 30, 2020 for adoption of plea bargain agreement or hearing. 

However, the second accused person pleaded guilty and opted for plea bargaining and Justice Lifu convicted him. 

The court ordered his remand in Ilesa Correctional Centre and adjourned to June 23 for sentencing. 

Adenitan Akinola
