Investigators of the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested sixty-four suspected internet fraudsters in Osun State.

The Commission’s Head, Media and Publicity, Mr Dele Oyewale made this known in a statement.

According to the statement, the suspected cybercriminals were arrested in Ede,  Osun State following actionable intelligence on their suspicious fraudulent activities in their environs.

The statement listed items recovered from them to include 18 exotic vehicles, 18 laptops, 112 mobile phones, three Play Station games, five motorcycles, and other incriminating documents among others.

It notes that the suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of  investigations.

The Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction and sentencing of seventeen internet fraudsters before Justices Bayo Taiwo, Ladoke Akintola, and Mohammed Owolabi of the State High Court, Ibadan, Oyo State and Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu of Ogun State High Court, Abeokuta, on a separate one count charge each.

The jail terms range from two to nine months community service, and one year in prison.

The convicts are Oduola Kunmi Ireola, Igbamidun Joshua Olamiposi, Ismael Fatai Olatunji, Osundele Oladapo Daniel, Olawale Isaac Adeleke, Olorunyomi Idowu Babatunde, Aneh Ojonimi, Olaide Iyanuoluwa Sadare, Akintola Babatunde Rasheed, Jamiu Babatunde Salam, Aluko Abayomi Oluwadamilare, Bello Ridwan Ayobami, Maleek Michael Ibrahim, Arasi Oluwaseun Tobi, Ganiu Fawaz Olalekan, Bello Ayoinde Olamilekan and Abiodun Taiwo Kareem.

They all pleaded ‘guilty’ to the one count charge filed against each one of them by the EFCC.

Consequently, prosecution counsel, Modupe Akinkoye, Oyelakin Oyediran, Oluwatoyin Owodunni, Musa Galadanchi, Abdulrasheed Suleiman, Mabas Mabur, and Samsudeen Bashir reviewed the facts of the cases and urged the courts to convict and sentence the defendants as charged.

Osundele was convicted and sentenced to one-year imprisonment while Arasi, Ganiu and Ibrahim bagged nine months jail term each.

Also, Akintola was convicted and sentenced to nine months community service, Oduola, Jamiu, Aluko and Bello to six months community service each while Igbamidun and Kareem bagged five months community service each.

Furthermore, Olatunji was convicted and sentenced to four months community service, Ayorinde to two months community service while Olorunyomi, Ojonimi, Sadare were convicted and fined N100, 000. 00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) each and Adeleke to N150,000.00 (One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) fine.

Justice Bayo Taiwo ordered that Osundele Oladapo Daniel pay the sum of $16, 671. 00USD in restitution and forfeiting one white colour Toyota Venza car worth N7million to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Other convicts were also ordered to restitute their victims and forfeit all items recovered from them to the government.

An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has convicted and sentenced sixty-six, 66, internet fraudsters to various jail terms, ranging from two weeks, four months, and six months of community service to ten months imprisonment.

The convicts were prosecuted by the Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and arraigned before Justices Olusola Adetujoye, Bayo Taiwo and Ladiran Akintola on a separate one-count charge, bordering on cyber crimes, between Monday, September 5, 2022, and Wednesday, September 21, 2022.

The convicts are Lawal Ismaila Adebola, Dazumi Azeez Jayeola, Morakinyo Abiodun Michael, Kehinde Samuel Olatunbosun, Yusuf Olawale Raji, Abass Akintayo Waliu, Kolawole Blessing Oluwafemi, Ajibade Habib Olakunle, Adedun Olajide Temidire, Dapo Ajayi Temitope Faith, Lamidi Olumide Samuel, Patrick Simon Olaide, Opeyemi Nurudeen, Obaloluwa Enoch Bolaji, Oladimeji Olamide Abdulrahan, Damilola Mubarak Muritala, Adedayo Wahab Abdullahi, Olotu Oluwadamilola Ayomikun, Aderibigbe Ibrahim Olamilekan, Sekoni Oluwatimilehin James, Dazumi Abdulrazak, Salami Ayo Wisdom and Ifeoluwa Joseph Olabiyi.

Others are Mubarak Salaudeen Opeyemi, Toriola Samuel Oluwadamilola, Abisoye Israel Olamilekan, Adebayo Babatunde Teslim, Onipede Damilola, Oladotun Tijani Kunle, Adeshina Opeyemi Akanni, Eniola Johnson Olorunsola, Adebowale Samuel Amusan, Ayinde Babalola Quadri, Obioma Honour Nmaduabuchi, Afolabi Pelumi Tomiwa, Salau Opeyemi Saheed, Adekunle Hammed, Abioye Oluwatobiloba Alex, Ajadi Hezekiah Oluwatobi, Kayode Donald Adubu, Olamilekan Gabriel Ebedi, Adediran Qudus Wale, Adams Ojo Segun, Ogundayo Usman Oladayo, Olamide Yusuf Ishola, Kolawole Fuad Abiodun, Adekoya Tobiloba, Giwa Babatunde David, Abdulfatahi Dolapo Oderinde and Akinwale Israel Bunmi.

The rest of the convicts are Alex Okhiria Chibueze, Gabriel Ikyeleve, Paul Uche Obinna, Udeh Emeka Moses, Alase Ayodele Philip, Afeez Sode Gbolahan, Abayomi Babatunde Adejuyigbe, Haruna Adedoyin Kayode, Adejuyigbe Oluwatobiloba Joshua, Gbadamosi Samson Iyanu, Olatunbosun Mojeeb Olanrewaju, Oduwaye Oluwale Kelvin, Adesokan Afeez Afolabi, Emmanuel Oluwatobi Ajala, Olamilekan Michael Ayegbusi and Adurota Emmanuel Oluwatosin.

They all pleaded “guilty” to the charges when they were read o them individually.

Consequently, prosecution counsels, Oyelakin Oyediran, Chidebere Okoli, Oluwatoyin Owodunni, Modupe Akunkoye, Mohammed Galadanchi, Mabas Mabur, Abdulrasheed Suleman and Samsudeen Bashir, prayed the court to convict and sentence them accordingly.

The courts convicted and sentenced the defendants to various jail terms, some two weeks, others four months, six months of community service, and some to ten months imprisonment. The courts also ordered that they restitute their various victims and forfeit all items recovered from them to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

All the convicts began their journey to the Correctional Centre when they were arrested by operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Command of the EFCC, for diverse internet-related offences. They were subsequently prosecuted and convicted.

Justice Bayo Taiwo of the Oyo State High Court, sitting in Ibadan, has convicted and sentenced seven internet fraudsters to various jail terms.

The convicts:  Ogunyemi Olajide Temitope, Olamilekan Fafiolu Quadri,  Olamilekan Paul Akinyemi, Ayegbusi Ayokunle,  Taiwo Azeez Dolapo, Adeogun Usman Oluwatobiloba and  Oyewumi Michael Oluwapelumi, were jailed on August 8 & 9, 2022.

They were convicted after pleading guilty to a one-count separate charge, upon their arraignment by the Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Based on their pleas, prosecution counsels, Oluwatoyin Owodunni and Mabars Mabur prayed the court to convict and sentence them as charged.

Justice Taiwo thereafter convicted and sentenced Temitope,  Quadri, Akinyemi and Ayokunle to six months of community service each and further ordered that “any of the convicts who failed to report at any point in time to their designated places assigned for the six months community service,  shall be sentenced to three years imprisonment at the end of the community service”.

Furthermore, the judge convicted and sentenced Oluwatobiloba to six months imprisonment but  Dolapo and Oluwapelumi to six months of community service each.

Also, the court ordered Temitope to pay the sum of $4,600USD (Four Thousand, Six Hundred United States Dollars) in restitution, Akinyemi  $3,000USD (Three Thousand United States Dollars) and  Quadri  $1,000 (One Thousand United States Dollars).

Other convicts were also ordered to restitute their victims and forfeit all items recovered from them to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The convicts’ journey to the Correctional Centre began when they were arrested by operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Command of the EFCC for internet-related offences. They were charged to court and convicted.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Command, on Wednesday August 4, 2021 secured the conviction of two fraudsters, Adisa Adebayo Adegboyega and Ganiyu Sodiq Olalekan before Justice Iyabo Yerima of the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan for internet-related fraud.

Adisa, 23, who claimed to be an National Diploma ,ND holder from Oke Ogun Polytechnic Saki, Oyo state, was sentenced to six months community service; while Ganiyu,18 year-old artisan, bagged three months community service.

The charge against Adisa reads: “That you, Adisa Adebayo Adegboyega on or about the 17th of November, 2020, at Ibadan within the Ibadan Judicial Division of this Honourable Court with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of Eight Hundred United States Dollars ,$800 USD, only through gift cards from one Herby Ruiter by falsely representing to him that you are a 45 years old white American nurse working in Cyprus, who goes by the name Jennifer Joel and who is in love with him and ready to marry him, which representations you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence”.

The offense is contrary to Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap.C38, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000 charges.

The judge also ordered Adisa to restitute to his victim; Herby De Ruiter the sum of Two Thousand and Forty-five United States Dollars ,$2,045 USD, only through the Federal Government of Nigeria, and to also forfeits his Techno Spark 4 mobile phone and one Dell Laptop to the Federal government of Nigeria.

Ganiyu was ordered to restitute the sum of $250USD ,Two Hundred and Fifty United States Dollars, to his victim; David Govann through the EFCC and forfeits an iphone 6x mobile phone to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office, has secured the conviction of three internet fraudsters.

The convicts are Afolabi Gbolahan, Gbolahan Sodiq Atanda and Saheed Ayomide Rabiu.

This is contained in a statement by the Head, Media and publicity, Wilson Uwujaren.

 Rabiu and Atanda were respectively convicted by Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo of the Federal High Court, Abeokuta while Justice Uche Agomo of the Federal High Court, Ibadan jailed Afolabi on an amended one count charge. 

The trio were found guilty of fraudulent impersonation, an offence contrary to Section 22 (2)(b)(1) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc.) Act.

Afolabi was sentenced to seven months imprisonment while Rabiu got one month jail term and Atanda bagged three months jail term.

 Apart from the jail term, Afolabi was ordered to restitute $1,000 (One Thousand United States Dollars) to his victim, Brown Brain.

He is also to forfeit his iPhone 7 to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

 Atanda is to refund $350 USD (Three Hundred and Fifty United States Dollars) and forfeit one black IPhone 11 Pro and one damaged Rose Gold IPhone to the Federal government of Nigeria.

Rabiu, is to forfeit one blue Itel P33 mobile phone to the Federal government of Nigeria.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested 34 suspected internet fraudsters, also known as Yahoo Yahoo Boys.

They were apprehended in separate operations in Ibadan, Oyo State and Lagos.

Twenty four of the suspects, most of whom claimed to be undergraduates, were rounded up on Thursday April 1, 2021 at their hideout in Apete area of Ibadan, Oyo State by operatives from the Ibadan zonal office of the commission.

The early morning raid followed actionable intelligence on their alleged involvement in internet-related crimes.

The arrest led to the recovery of valuable items, including four exotic cars, mobile phones, laptops, SIM cards and several incriminating documents.

 The remaining ten suspects were arrested by Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Office on March 30, 2021 at Horizon II Estate, Meadow Hall Way, Lekki, Lagos following credible information on their alleged criminal activities.

The suspects were allegedly involved in romance scam, unemployment benefits scam, identity theft, and purchase of malicious tools to compromise corporate email accounts and intercept email messages.

 Items recovered from the suspects include mobile phones and laptop computers.

The suspects have volunteered statements to the commission and would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

Justice Patricia Ajoku of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday, convicted five internet fraudsters over impersonation.

The convicts are: Omosehin Sina, Yusuf Olajide Bello, Olowosogba Olamilekan Samson, Bakare Omolayo Toheed and Sodiq Oluwasegun Adefila

They pleaded guilty to their respective charges in line with the conditions of the plea bargain agreement with the Commission.

Based on their pleas, prosecution counsel, Ben Ubi and Chidi Okoli invited Umara Uyah, Nafiu Sa’ad and Usman Babangida Mohammed to review facts of the case as witnesses.

The court consequently convicted them as charged and sentenced Omosehin and Olowosogba to four years jail term each, while Yusuf earned eighteen months jail term.

Bakare was sentenced to four months while Adefila bagged three months imprisonment. Their sentence however takes effect from their dates of arrest.

The convicts are to restitute sundry sums to their victims and also forfeit the items recovered from them to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal office, has arrested 13 suspected internet fraudsters in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Their arrest was triggered by intelligence reports detailing their alleged involvement in internet fraud and other related offences.

The suspects are: Kayode Adeoye, Ogunleye Yemi, Adio Taheed, Olaniyi Joshua, AbdulAfeez Kehinde.

Others are: Bakare Omolayo, Adesuntola Adebayo, Ridwan Gbolahan, Abdulfatai Waliu, Olayiwola Olamilekan, Raji Wasiu, Olawale Ibrahim and Tajudeen Mojeed.

Four cars, Phones, Laptops and other incriminating documents used in perpetrating the crime were recovered from them.

The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office has arrested eleven suspected internet fraudsters in Osogbo, the Osun State Capital. 

Acting on intelligence, operatives of the commission swooped on their hideouts in the Osun State capital where they picked all the eleven. 

The commission impounded twelve cars which included three Toyota Highlander SUVs, one Mercedes Benz GLK 350 SUV, One Acura SUV, two Honda Crosstour, two Toyota Venza and three other Toyota brands. 

Also seized from the suspects were phones, laptops and other devices.

In a telephone interview with newsmen, EFCC spokesperson, Mr Wilson Uwujaren said the suspects were in custody of the commission for interrogation.

Mr Uwujaren added that they would be charged to court for trial.

Upon their arrest, the suspects, who were all young claimed to be students, artisans, farmers and businessmen.

Three suspected internet fraudsters were chased to death while one other also sustained injuries in a road accident following an alleged chase by operatives of the Joint taskforce in Osogbo.

The accident occurred Tuesday evening on the East bypass when the Toyota Corolla with registration number KUJ-553 LY Abuja veered off the road during the chase, and hit electricity poll.

One of the victims was said to have gave up the ghost instantly while two  out of the remaining three occupants who sustained serious injuries later died on their way to the hospital.

Eyewitnesses told Radio Nigeria correspondent that the joined taskforce operatives ran away immediately the incident occurred and were chased by sympathizers.

The operatives were said to have been shooting sporadically into the air to be able to escape jungle justice.

As at the time of filling this report, some angry youths have blocked every road leading to the Government House and other major streets in Osogbo to protest against the action of the suspected SARS officers.

They have also dumped the corpse of one of the deceased at the Government House gate in Osogbo to register their grievances.

Confirming the incident, Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Yemisi Opalola denied the involvement of police in the incident, saying the incident was between joint task force and suspected internet fraudsters.
