Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Agro-Rangers have neutralised a suspected bandit and arrested two others following a gun duel in Iseyin, Oyo State.

Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Samuel Opebiyi, disclosed this in a statement made available to Radio Nigeria.

Mr Opebiyi said personnel at the Iseyin Base responded to a distress call from the Sawmill Area reporting suspected kidnapping activities.

According to him, the Agro-Rangers encountered five armed suspects upon arrival at the scene, who immediately opened fire.

“Acting in line with the rules of engagement and in defence of lives and property, the team returned fire,” the statement said.

The exchange of gunfire lasted several minutes, after which one suspect was neutralised and two others apprehended.

The remaining two suspects reportedly fled into the surrounding forest with suspected gunshot injuries, prompting an ongoing manhunt.

Items recovered from the suspects include a cartridge gun with live and spent ammunition, two cutlasses, a metal rod, and assorted charms.

Mr Opebiyi stated that the arrested suspects and recovered exhibits have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Iseyin Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation.

The corpse of the neutralised suspect has been deposited at the mortuary.
