The Oyo State Government says it will intensify efforts to clamp down on illegal petroleum product sellers operating along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The Executive Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security Matters and Head of the Security Task Force, Mr Sunday Odukoya, made this known during a special enforcement operation in Ibadan.

Addressing journalists during the exercise, Mr Odukoya said the government would not relent until illegal fuel sales are completely eradicated, stressing that the sale of adulterated petroleum products poses serious safety and security risks to residents and road users.

According to him, intelligence reports indicate that many individuals involved in the illegal trade are also linked to other criminal activities.

Mr Odukoya noted that despite repeated warnings and earlier enforcement operations by the government, many operators have continued the illicit business, making it necessary for the state to intensify the crackdown.

He also appealed to members of the public to support security agencies by refusing to patronise illegal fuel sellers and by reporting suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.

The special task force carrying out the enforcement operation includes personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority, officials of the Oyo State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, as well as operatives of the Amotekun Corps.
