Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Moor Plantation, Ibadan has graduated over one thousand students for the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 academic years.

The convocation ceremony which coincides with the college’s 60th anniversary had in attendance members of the academia, stakeholders in the ministry of agriculture, traditional rulers and people from all walks of life.

In an address, Minister Of Agriculture And Food Security, Prof. Abubakar Kyari challenged the graduating students to be dynamic, embrace new technology and serve as a strong link between researchers, farmers and consumers.

Represented by the Oyo state coordinator, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Florence Kakulu, the minister appealed to the graduands to contribute immensely to food sufficiency in Nigeria rather than seeking white collar jobs.

While commending the provost, management and staff of the college for the giant strides and visionary leadership exhibited at the college, the zonal director of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mrs Olayinka Akeredolu charged the youths to believe in themselves, their profession and the country.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Provost, Federal College Of Animal Health and Production Technology, Moor Plantation Ibadan, Dr. Adekoya Owosibo said the College has produced over six thousand graduates since its inception with many of them becoming self-employed while some are in government-owned agencies. 

Dr Owosibo said products of the College stand the chance of mitigating gaps in extension workers to achieve the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security’s vision of National food Security.

“A school of two building structures has developed into a College of over thirty building structures.

“A school of less than one hundred students has developed to a Federal College with over one thousand five hundred students. A school of less than forty-five staff has developed into a College with over six hundred staff.

“The nomenclature of the College Academic Staff was changed from Tutor to Lectureship cadre.

“The College Lecturers have developed themselves with over fifty PhD holders and numerous Master’s Degree holders who are on the verge of completing their PhD programme in various Universities.

The provost explained that the College operates a livestock farm for students’ practicals and runs a Veterinary Clinic and Diagnostic Laboratory for analyzing samples from sick animals.

Some of the students who could not hide their joy, promised to be good ambassadors of the college and put to use the academic tutelage garnered from the school.

The event which began on Tuesday this week with an awareness walk, anniversary lecture, project commissioning, award presentation and exhibition, yesterday (4th April) featured prize giving and luncheon

The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola has inaugurated a 1.2km internal roads for the Federal College of Agriculture, Moor plantation, Ibadan to ease movement within the institution and its environs.

Mr Fashola while launching noted that was part of the task of bridging infrastructural needs embarked upon by the federal government on major highways.

The minister who spoke through the Oyo state Federal Controller Works, Mr Kayode Ibrahim pointed out that the federal government had intervened in the internal road network of forty-six tertiary federal institutions, out of which 29 had been handed over in 2021.

Mr Fashola who stated that the federal government now has seventeen roads ready for commissioning explained that another thirty roads in tertiary institutions are ongoing across the country making a total of seventy-six.

The minister said the project was an investment in education and encouraged the students to use the asset properly.

“While it is true that a lot of work needs to be done in many sectors of our national life, including education, the Buhari government has stepped up to lead the process of getting that work done.”

“The gap of our infrastructural needs is steadily being bridged by a gradual process of repairs, renewal and construction on major highways and it has gotten to the schools.”

“It is undebatable that quality of education will be impacted by the quality of infrastructure and the learning environment and those who doubt it should simply listen to some of the feedback from students in the schools where this type of intervention has taken place” he stated

Earlier, the provost of the Federal College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan, Dr Oluwakemi Augustus appreciated federal government for the development of the institution.

Dr Augustus who said the road has improved the accessibility and ease of movement within the school called for the construction of a kilometre access road into the college.

Rice is one of the staple foods in Nigeria, and there is the need to promote its cultivation particularly with the ravaging effects of COVID-19 on farmers.

However, the federal government in partnership with the Japan International Agency, JICA, has distributed rice and other farm inputs to farmers in Oyo State to enhance its production.

The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria, FOMWAN Oyo State chapter has decried the rape and murder of Barakat Bello, a student of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology SLT, Federal College of Animal Health and Production, Moor Plantation, Ibadan.

The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria, FOMWAN Oyo State chapter has condemned in strong terms the rape and  murder in Ibadan of  an eighteen year old Barakat Bello of the  Department of Science Laboratory Technology SLT, Federal College of Animal Health and Production, Moor Plantation, Ibadan.

The Association therefore calls for thorough investigation and arrest of perpetrators of all recent and backlog cases of rape and other violent acts against girls and women in Oyo State and indeed Nigeria.

Oyo FOMWAN Amirah ,  Dr. Bushrat Oloso in a statement signed by the Media Officer of the Association Alh Oyetunji Oyekunle said the rising cases of rape and murder of women in Nigeria were worrisome, alarming and disturbing.

Alhaja Oloso who noted that the rape and murder of Barakat, a member of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, Akinyele Area Council few days ago was one too many as it came at a time Nigerians were still battling with the gruesome rape and killing of Uwavera Omozuwa , a 22-year-old Microbiology student of University of Benin inside one Redeemed Christian Church of God Ikpoba Hill, Edo state by unknown assailants.

The Amirah in the statement appealed to  all well-meaning individuals and concerned authorities to rise in defence of girl child and in defence of women who are daily being oppressed, raped ,attacked and murdered by demonic and sex-maniac men and ensure perpetrators are brought to justice to serve as deterrent to others but to stem the tide of the resultant effects of such actions on the society in the long run.

Alhaja Oloso called on human rights groups, professional bodies  and faith-based  organizations including Islamic bodies like NSCIA, NACOMYO, MSSN, MUSWEN among others to increase their awareness on the negative effects of violence against women as condemned strongly in the Holy Quran and other scriptures.

” Barakat Bello, Uwavera Omozuwa, Tina and others must not die in vain. We must all speak in one  voice to condemn all forms of evils against women. It could be anyone we know. The attackers may be lurking somewhere in our neighborhood. We demand that the security operatives do whatever it takes to apprehend the rapists and murderers in our midst. Let us keep on sharing and promoting the hashtag #JusticeforBarakat#
#Justiceforothers# until the perpetrators of the heinous and diabolical act are brought to book” The Amirah stressed. While praying to Allah to grant the parents of Barakat, family , friends and others the fortitude to bear her loss, FOMWAN Amirah also beseeched Him to rest Barakat’s soul and admit her to Al-Jannah Firdaous.
