A High Chief in Sagamu Local Government area of Ogun State, Bashorun Abiodun has been reportedly assassinated by unknown gunmen at his residence.

Bashorun Abiodun who was the Baasegun of the Itunsokun community was shot dead by 3 gunmen around 8pm on Monday.

When contacted, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Alamutu confirmed the incident, promising that the police were doing everything possible to unravel the mystery behind the death.

Mr Alamutu who had visited the scene of the incident, said the Police suspected a case of murder and were on top of the situation.

Operatives of Ogun State Police Command have rescued two teenagers from their abductors suspected to be kidnappers.

The 17 year old, Chindalu Umadi and 16 year old, Udeba David were rescued by the policemen attached to Oru Division in Ijebu.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Omolola Odutola who confirmed the incident in a statement in Abeokuta said the two teenagers were kidnapped in Ojo local government, Lagos State. 

According to her, two unknown individuals abducted them into a Toyota Saloon car, and the victims have no recollection of what happened during their captivity until they were abandoned near a riverside in Oru Ijebu.

The Command’s Spokesperson who said the teenagers claimed that they were on their way to play football when they were forcibly taken pointed out that efforts were on to reunite the teenagers with their families.

Mrs Odutola said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Alamutu expressed his satisfaction with this positive outcome and emphasized the need for parents to be vigilant, especially during the ember months which many believed to be notorious for increase in criminal activities. 

He also encouraged the teenagers to move in groups to minimize the risk of falling victim to such incidents.

Operatives of Ogun State Police Command have arrested three suspects for allegedly stealing tricycles and a motorcycle in different locations in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola said in a statement in Abeokuta that the suspects, Shaibu Isah, Sunday Achiri, and Azeez Mufutaru, were apprehended following a tip-off.

She said the 21-year-old Shaibu Isah who claimed to be a resident of Ibadan, Oyo State, was arrested while trying to unchain and steal a parked motorcycle with registration number SGM 557 VQ.

The command’s spokesperson pointed out that the two other suspects were arrested while planning to steal a tricycle that was given to them on hire purchase.

She said the duo admitted to absconding with the tricycle, registered as SRA 036 UM, belonging to an individual named Precious from Mowe, with the intention of disposing of it.

The suspects, along with the recovered items, had been handed over to the Redeemed Divisional Police Officer for further investigation.

She noted that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Alamutu advised the public to opt for smart hire purchase systems that involve trackable hirers to prevent incidents of absconding and property diversion.

A new Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Alamutu has assumed office in Ogun State with a promise that the command would strengthen the existing relationship with the state judiciary to achieve the goals of ensuring peace and security.

Mr Alamutu made the promise while addressing the officers and men of the force at the Eleweran, Abeokuta Headquarters of the Command. 

The new Commissioner of Police explained that forming a synergy with the judiciary would enhance effective prosecution of suspects and swift dispensation of justice. 

Mr Alamutu who described his promotion as a call to higher responsibility gave the assurance that his tenure as the 36th Commissioner of Police in the State would be characterized by enhanced intelligence gathering as well as proactive deployment of human and material resources to check crises and reduce crime. 

He promised to tackle the menace of land grabbing headlong and advised the officers and men of the command to uphold discipline and refrain from conniving with criminally inclined persons, noting that they would be held responsible for their actions and inactions. 

The Commissioner of Police who assured the police personnel of regular training and retraining warned that he would not tolerate unwarranted affront or physical attack against the police in the course of their lawful duties.
