The new Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr Ayodele Sonubi has promised continuous robust policing and a peaceful environment in the state.

The commissioner, who has just been deployed to the Oyo State Command, made the promise at a news briefing at the Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan.

Mr Sonubi was until his elevation as Commissioner of Police, was in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, CID, Iyaganku, Oyo State Police Command as the Deputy Commissioner of Police and succeeds the former CP, Mr Adebola Hamzat.

Mr Shonubi noted that he recognized the immense contributions and professional policing principles adopted by his predecessor who has been redeployed to the Counter Terrorism Unit, FHQ, Abuja, which had led to a solid structural framework for policing the state. 

The new commissioner said the command under his watch would continue to live up to its statutory responsibility of protecting lives and property without prejudice to background, orientation, philosophy, religion or association.

He called for continued support and promised that the command under his watch would not tolerate the existence of any criminal enterprise and would not also hesitate to identify, isolate and bring to deserved justice any person or group that may attempt to threaten the existing relative tranquillity in the state.

“Worthy of note is that, as part of the modalities emplaced at further securing the space, the Oyo State Police Command has further rejigged its security architecture to accommodate more actionable tools to clampdown on criminal elements through the adoption of a 5-step Action plan tagged “RACAI”; Robust Inter-Agency Collaborations with our Sister services; Amplified Community Policing engagements and Capacity-building for Police Officers through training and retraining; Advanced Intelligence & Technology-Driven Policing & Increasing layers of Supervision for our Officers & Men; Increased visibility Policing and Improved Response time to distress management, Mr Sonubi explained.

He assured the revered members of the fourth estate of the realm of a cordial Police-Media Relationship acknowledging them as worthy partners in the business of perception and image management. 

“On a note of Finality, the Oyo State Police Command under my watch shall operate firm and robust security architecture with the assurances of making the state unhabitable for all criminal and undesirable elements. On behalf of the Oyo State Police Command I look forward to formidable partnerships and strong collaborations with residents and all citizens in Oyo State”, the commissioner added.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr Adebola Hamzat says the Command would continue to uphold its statutory responsibilities of protecting lives and property without prejudice to background, orientation, philosophy or association.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo state, Mr. Adebola Hamzat stated this while parading over forty suspected criminals who were arrested for various offences at the Police Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan.

The 45th Commissioner of Police in the state said as the lead agency in internal security, the command would adopt a holistic approach in tackling security challenges in the State.

He noted that as part of modalities emplaced in achieving the above, the Oyo State Police Command has comprehensively rejigged its Security Architecture to accommodate more veritable and actionable tools to clampdown on criminal elements through the adoption of a strategic 4-POINT ACTION PLAN.

The Police Commissioner said this includes; Robust Inter-Agency Collaborations, Enhanced Community Policing, Advance Intelligence & Technology-Driven policing and capacity-building for Police Officers in operational competence, rule of law and respect for human rights.

“The Oyo State Police Command is not oblivious of the State’s security challenges conditioned by population explosion, massive migrations from the rural to urban settlements and gigantic landmass.”

“Worthy of note is that, crime and criminality are conceived and executed within every society by some unscrupulous members of same. Hence, the need for improved co-operation among the citizenry and scalable community policing engagements for swift Policing interventions.” 

” To our immediate family, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), I wish to humbly use this medium to acknowledge your immesurable contributions and reassure you that we shall further consolidate on the existing relationship while soliciting your continued collaboration and support”.

The Police boss in Oyo State said the Command under his watch would create a firm security architecture with the assurances of making the state unhabitable for criminal elements as they are advised to either retrace their steps or exit the State permanently as the state woukd not be a Safe-haven for criminals.

Mr Hamzat stated further that the Command was looking forward to formidable partnerships and strong collaborations with residents and the great citizens of the Pacesetter State to collectively wage war against insecurity bedevilling the society.

He who said collaborative efforts of the Nigeria Police and the law abiding citizens were instrumental to the achievements being recorded by the Command under his watch, solicited more continued cooperation in tackling crimes and criminality in the State.

Parading the suspects on behalf of the Commissioner of police, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Adewale Osifeso said the suspects were arrested for various offences ranging from armed robbery, car theft, kidnapping, conspiracy, Cultism to baby harvesting. 

He said cars, motorcycles, and baby factory items, were recovered alongside guns, live cartridges, locally made pistols and cutlasses from the suspects.

Speaking on a case of harvesting of a day- old baby girl who was born by a teenager in Oyo town, the PPRO said, the baby was deceptively taken to Abia State for sale at the sum of Seven Hundred Thousand Naira by the biological father of the teenage girl and was later arrested along with his accomplices after thorough investigation by the Police.

Some of the suspects who confessed to the allegations levelled against them blamed their actions on the poor economy of the country and promised to turn a new leaf if pardon.

Mr Osifeso said the crimes were committed within the State and warned that its operatives would not relent until the criminals retrace their steps or permanently relocate out of the state.

Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr Adebola Hamzat, says the Command has emplaced adequate security measures to ensure a peaceful protest embarked upon by Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and Nigeria trade union, TUC in the State.

Mr Hamzat made this known while deploying officers and men across the ten Area Commands in the State for visibility policing and confidence building patrols in order to avoid the protest being hijacked by hoodlums. 

The Police Commissioner noted that strategic operational and intelligence assets were deployed while the spotlight was also beamed on Places of interests, critical infrastructures and landmarks.

Mr Hamzat,therefore, called on members of the public to go about their lawful businesses without fear of harassment or molestation from anyone.

Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Mr Adebola Hamzat has ordered the immediate deployment of Command’s operational, intelligence and tactical assets towards the overall success of the Egungun festivities in the state.

This is contains in a statement signs in Ibadan by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Adewale Osifeso. 

It states that Police Command wishes to inform the general public that it has concluded plans to effectively secure residents and good citizens alike following the “Suspension-lift order” on the Annual Egungun Festivities by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Senator Lekan Balogun, CFR, Alli Okunmade II.

It states further that residents shall witness high octane patrols, intelligence led stop and search and technology enhanced surveillance duties during the build-up to the commencement of the next phase of the festivities.

It also assures the general public to go about their lawful businesses without fear of harassment or molestation, and warned against breaching the relative tranquility enjoyed in the State by agents of mischief.

The Command further advises Parents, Guardians and leaders of influence in the society to prevail on their Children, Wards and Proteges against being used by criminal elements to disrupt the processions in a bid to create panic and blood-letting as heavy sanctions would be meted out on any one found culpable in accordance with relevant laws.
