The Ondo State House of Assembly, ODHA, has charged the state Ministry of Water Resources, Public Sanitation and Hygiene, to ensure sustainable water supply through the provision of potable water for all residents.

Speaker of the assembly, Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun stated this during an oversight visit by the Assembly Committee on Water Resources to the Ministry in Akure.

Mr Oleyelogun who hailed the Ministry for effective rehabilitating boreholes for rural dwellers through the Kamomi Aketi water policy, charged them to double their efforts.

Earlier, the chairman of the committee, Mr Jamiu Maito said the visit led by the speaker showed the importance of the ministry. 

Mr Maito tasked the ministry to ensure increased access to safe sanitation and hygiene with a view to enhancing the health and general well-being of the citizenry.

In his address, the Ondo State Commissioner for Water Resources, Public Sanitation and Hygiene, Mr Fatai Olotu said the ministry had rehabilitated 2,163 boreholes in 1,265 communities and provided 88 functional water facilities in 15 Local Government Areas of the state.

Mr Olotu, however, stressed that the ministry had been handicapped by inadequate funding and running grants.

Ondo State 2022 budget proposal of over one hundred and ninety one billion naira has passed second reading at the plenary of the state assembly.

The lawmakers at the plenary referred the budget proposal to committee level after the reading by the acting Clerk of the House, Mr Benjamin Jaiyeola.

The Speaker, Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun while calling for thorough job urged all Ministries, Departments and Agencies liaise with their various house committees for timely passage of the budget proposal.

The lawmakers thereafter gave the house Committee on Finance and Appropriation two ultimatum to submit its report.

Speaking with Assembly Correspondents after plenary, Chairman, House committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mr Sunday Olajide said the committee will work within the time frame to achieve desired results for the 2022 fiscal year.

On the budgetary provision for the house after its autonomy, Mr Olajide noted that the committee will take a critical look into the aspect and do the needful for the better running of the legislative arm.

The Ondo State House of Assembly has appealed to the Doctors’ on strike to please toe the line of peace and return to work in the interest of the good people.

Efforts to resolve the industrial dispute generated by the striking members of the Nigeria Medical Association in Ondo State had hit the rock.

Deliberating on the development on Thursday at plenary, Lawmakers in the Ondo State House of Assembly expressed deep concern on the aftermath of the strike on the people.

They noted that the strike had triggered mortality among patients who now have to patronize quack doctors because they lack the wherewithal to attend standard hospitals in view of the high charges placed on them.

The Lawmakers appealed to relevant authorities to find a way of procuring an amicable solution to the industrial crisis which has triggered brain-drain amongst medical personnel in the state 

Speaking on the development, the Speaker, Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun noted that the industrial dispute has lasted for so long and there is need to put an end to it. 

Mr Oleyelogun called for a tripartite meeting which would involve Medical personnel, the executive and the Legislative arms with a view to fashion out an amicable solution to the lingering crisis.

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has reappointed four commissioners who served with him during his first tenure.

They are Wale Akinterinwa, Donald Ojogo, Charles Titiloye, and Engineer Raimi Aminu.

The governor said the names have been forwarded to the Ondo State House of Assembly, ODHA, for screening and confirmation.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State House of Assembly, ODHA, says it has received names of four Commissioner Nominees sent by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

The names are contained in a letter addressed to the Speaker, Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun, and signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale.

The governor in the letter requested members of the assembly to give urgent approval to the list in view of the need to fast-track the instrumentality of governance.

The speaker, Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun in a statement by the chairman, House Committee on Information, Youth and Sports Development, Mr Olugbenga Omole pledged on behalf of the lawmakers that adequate attention will be given to the letter for quick approval.
