The Oyo State Government has disproved reports alleging that it demolished a property belonging to the former Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Rauf Olaniyan, for political reasons.

Oyo state government has denied media reports that it had demolished a property belonging to the former deputy governor of the state, Rauf Olaniyan for political reasons. 

Some online media had reported that Oyo State Ministry of Land and Urban Development through its officials demolished the former governor’s property located at Temidire Zone 1, Bodija/Ojoo Expressway, Ibadan, 

The Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Akin-Funmilayo Williams debunked the demolition while speaking with journalists after an on the spot assessment on the property noting that only fences erected illegally to block access road was brought down.

The commissioner also explained that the decision was taken after receiving a lot of complaints from residents of the community and serving notices to those concerned.

He said the approval claimed to be obtained by the federal ministry of lands, housing and urban development prohibited those concerned from blocking the access road linking to the major road.

The Commissioner noted that the Ministry’s officials served the former deputy governor, Rauf Olaniyan, a notice to remove the illegal structure after complaints from the residents of the community.

He added that government would not tolerate any unlawful act that would truncate the peaceful atmosphere enjoyed by the people of the state.
