The Ogun State Government has expressed its readiness to interface with the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, to enforce due processes in the marketing of oil and gas resources in the state.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Tunji Odunlami made this known in Abeokuta, at a consultative forum aimed at improving the oil and gas sector.

Mr. Odunlami who noted that the Ministry had discovered that petrol stations were being built without obtaining approval, explained that the process of getting permit had been made easier.

He said there was the need to regulate the activities of gas retailers, noting that those were not ready to follow due process would be stopped from operating in the state .

Mr. Odunlami who also met with the coalition of Ogun State Technicians, Artisans and Craftsmen described them as crucial stakeholders in the building of Lord production management in the State.

The head of Operations, Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, Mr. Adebowale Oluwafemi expressed the Department’s readiness to work with the ministry to sanitise the oil and gas sector.

Ogun State government has sealed 26 buildings including gas outlets, petrol filling station, as well as commercial buildings for non compliance with Physical Planning law of the State.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Tunji Odunlami disclosed this after a routine enforcement exercise at Mowe-Ofada in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the State,

Mr Odunlami who noted that five other commercial buildings had been served contravention notice said the present administration would not condone illegal building constructions without planning permit.

He also explained that the sealed properties had been developed in breach of the building law which included non-compliance with space standards, non conformity with the approved planning permit, and construction of additional structures without permit.

While advising property owners to finalise their applications for prompt delivery, Mr Odunlami reiterated that development permit could be obtained through a seamless process following the new reforms put in place by the government.

Contributing, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Physical Planning who led the enforcement team, Mr. Tunde Oluegbewesa urged investors, developers and property owners whose properties were sealed to visit the Ministry for clarification and presentation of evidence for the construction of additional buildings

Ogun State Government has promised to support federal government’s efforts to ensure that the proposed Regional Development Plan for Southwest Geo Political Zone of the country becomes a reality.
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Tunji Odunlami gave the assurance while receiving Federal Government’s delegation led by the Deputy Director, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Mr David Akinola in Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta.
 Mr Odunlami who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Yetunde Dina, said the proposed plan would bring about harmonious development to the region.
Describing the proposed Regional Developmental Plan as a welcome Initiative, Mr Odunlami said the idea would also enhance the physical planning of southwest Nigeria.
Responding, the Deputy Director, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Mr David Akinola restated federal government’s committed to achieving a sustainable Regional development plan for the Southwest, especially Ogun Statedue to its borders with States in the region.

Mr Akinola who explained that the proposed project would fashion out a developmental plan for the six States in the region, said project was expected to be delivered in six months.

Ogun State government has demolished a three – storey building in Abeokuta, after it failed a structural integrity test to ascertain its durability.

The distressed building had been razed as a result of power surge which occurred at a neighbouring shop in September last year.

Speaking with journalists after the exercise, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Tunji Odunlami said the electronic mall, located at Totoro area of the state capital was pulled down to forestall the loss of lives and property to building collapse.

The commissioner explained that test had shown that the building was not safe for use, hence the need for the demolition.

In an interview, the owner of the Electronic Mall, Mr Emmanuel Olujimi maintained that the state government had done a thorough job after the fire incident, before deciding on the demolition.

He encouraged residents to always observe safety precautions, to reduce the risk of fire outbreak.

The exercise was supervised by the Ogun State Building Production Management Authority, led by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Physical Planning, Mr Tunde Olugbewesa and the Acting General Manager of the agency, Aderonke Afolabi.
