The long arm of the law has caught up with some suspected criminals who specialized in vandalising street light cables in Ibadan and its environs. 

The three suspected cable thieves, Aliu Musa, Joseph Lakur and Joseph Michael were paraded alongside another suspect who was arrested for tricycle hijacking, Opeyemi Anuoluwa, at the Command Headquarters of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Oyo State.

Speaking with journalists, the head of the cable syndicate, Joseph Micheal said the two other guys introduced the act to him but he was the one that arranged for the sales of the stolen street light cables in Apata Area of Ibadan. 

Micheal said the first cable they stole was sold for forty-nine thousand naira and three thousand naira was his reward.

He said though he regretted involving in crime, he was ready to face the consequences. 

The suspect, who was apprehended and paraded for stealing a tricycle at Oje Area of Ibadan, Opeyemi Anuoluwa said he destroyed some wires in the process of stealing in other to move the tricycle. 

Anuoluwa said he was unfortunate when the security personnel tracked down the tricycle in Iseyin on the same day. 

He blamed his action on the poor economy situation of the country and promised to turn a new leaf if pardoned. 

Parading the suspects, the Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Oyo State Command, Mrs Oyindamola Okuneye, said the suspects were apprehended in Oyo state. 

Mrs Okuneye explained that the street light cable vandals were apprehended along NIHORT and confessed to be specialists in stealing and selling of street light cables.

She said the three suspects would soon be charged to court after proper investigations.

A new Civil Defence Public Relations Officer, CDPRO, Mrs Oyindamola Okuneye has assumed duty at the Oyo State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

This is contained in a statement by the Command’s Administration Officer, Mr Igbalawole Sotiyo.

The statement notes that the former Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mr Olusegun Oluwole has been deployed to the NSCDC Annex office at Ona Ara.

The new PRO, Mrs Okuneye took over from Mr Oluwole Olusegun, who has served the Corps in that capacity for more than a decade as the Corps Spokesman.

The statement notes that Mrs Okuneye finished from the Tai Solarin University of Education with a degree in Business Administration.

Until her recent appointment was the Public Relations Officer of the newly created Female Special Squad of the Oyo State Command.
