The Nigeria legion, Oyo State Command has distributed cash empowerment to two thousand veteran soldiers comprising their widows and those that are physically challenged and other stakeholders in the thirty three local government area of the state.

The event which was held at the Nigeria Legion headquarters, Agodi, Ibadan had Area Council Chairmen receiving the gifts on behalf of members in their respective Local government areas.

In an address, Chairman, Nigeria legion, Oyo State Command, Mr Adeyemi Ogunkojo while noting that the cash was sourced during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration launch stressed that the funds would go a long in supporting the veterans.

Mr Ogunkojo maintained that the organization had consistently collaborated with other security agencies to sustain peace in the state and commended veterans who suffered grievous injuries or paid the Supreme price while in active service for the unity of the country.

In a remark, Director Social welfare, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mr Olubukola Akande said Governor Seyi Makinde would continue to support the Nigeria legion for their sacrifice in unifying the country.

Some of the recipients of the cash empowerment thanked God for been alive to witness the day.

The recipient also called on government to do more for them to alleviate their economic challenges.
