The success of the Electronic Mining Cadastre System, eMC+ for online mineral title administration and management requires input from all stakeholders.
The Director General, and Chief Executive Officer, CEO of Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office, MCO in the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Mr. Obadiah Nkom made the appeal while giving an overview of the office mandate and the journey so far at a sensitization workshop on the adoption of eMC+ in Ibadan.
Mr. Nkom maintained that eMC+ would promote ease of doing business, transparency, and efficiency in the issuance of mining licenses, and also offer a gateway to wealth away from oil, enjoining stakeholders to harness all the benefits.
He hinted that the eMC+ had a unique user support framework but dedicated centres would be opened in the six MCO zonal offices to address complaints arising from assessing the system and reduction of stress associated with travelling to Abuja for license and generation of grants.
Mr. Nkom appealed to stakeholders to join the MCO at the Nigeria Mining Week for the official unveiling of the eMC+ on 1st November 2022 in Abuja.
Chairman on the occasion and Head, Department of Geology, University of Ibadan, Professor Olugbenga Okunlola, who remarked that the foundation for infrastructure development is on earth, stated that eMC+ was the right initiative to boost investors’ confidence and set rules and regulations against illegal mining and related crises.
In a goodwill message, Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde represented by the state Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Abiodun Oni reiterated the need for the Federal Government to grant a greater sense of ownership to the state government to avert revenue loss to illegal mining activities.
The Sabiganna of Iganna, Oba Saliu Oyemonla urged Federal Government to incorporate traditional rulers in the host communities in efforts to address insecurity and other challenges arising from the migration of oil to mining.
In another goodwill message, a major sponsor of the workshop, the Chief Executive Officer Segilola Resources Operating Limited, Mr. Segun Lawson represented by Miss Ojonugwh Omane described the eMC+ as a brilliant initiative with vast benefits to all stakeholders, hence the imperative to embrace the system.
Some of the participants including the Director General, Nigerian Geological Survey Agency, Abuja, Dr Abdulrazaq Garba, represented by the Director, National Geoscience Information Centre, Mrs Bola Akinwande, the
President Nigeria-China Chamber of Mines, Mr. Olugbenga Okunlola Ajala and the National President, Women in Mining in Nigeria, Mrs Joy Adeyemi noted that the eMC+ was an important milestone which would make Nigeria one of the countries of choice for investment by global players in the industry.
Highlights of the event which had participants from investors and key players from across the six states in the Southwest included a cultural dance to showcase the importance of eMC+ and a demo presentation of the system.
