The National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, has reiterated its commitment towards ensuring Nigerians have access to quality healthcare services.

The Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of the NPHCDA, Dr. Muyi Aina made this known in Abuja during a media briefing where he rolled out the plan of the agency in the next four years.

Dr Aina noted that the agency under his watch was working assiduously to provide better access to higher quality services, increase community demand and improve health systems resilience through the expansion of the number of facilitates across the country.

“Over the next four years, we are going to really be working to make them fully functional by making them have what they need to provide quality services. We will ensure that they have the workforce, the commodities and technical assistance to make good use of the resources that they getting through the decentralized facility financing and that they have all the equipment and infrastructure including accommodation for the front-line health workers that are working in the health centres.”

Dr. Aina who identified overall directions in the next couple of to deliver on its mandate pointed out that the present administration under President Bola Tinubu had shown unflinching commitment to the health sector particularly primary health care due to its closeness to the people at the grassroots.

The NPHCDA boss also revealed that the federal government is set to commence the second phase of vaccination against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) by May 2024, in 21 States.

Nigeria has received another batch of four million from the Spanish European Union members.

        The donation was made today to the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA in Abuja.

        The European Union Ambassador to Nigeria, Samuella Isopi said the donation was a testament of its solidarity to the strong partnership between the European Union with Nigeria in the fight against Covid -19 pandemic.

        Ms. Isopi stressed that the European Union remained committed to ensure global availability of the vaccine. 

        The Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency NPHCDA, Dr, Faisal Shuaib who received the vaccine encouraged eligible Nigerians to get free vaccination against the Covid-19 pandemic to curtail its spread.

The Ogun State Government has issued a sixty-day ultimatum to residents to be vaccinated against Covid-19 or be prevented from enjoying essential public services or engaging in any form of business transactions.

Governor Dapo Abiodun who disclosed this in Abeokuta, at the official flag-off of the state’s mass Covid-19 Vaccination campaign, targeting 2 million people across the state, said unvaccinated individuals would not be allowed to be allowed entry into schools, markets, motor parks and other public facilities at the expiration of the ultimatum.

Governor Abiodun said the mass vaccination, to be carried out in all primary, secondary, tertiary and selected private health institutions across the state, would provide the opportunity for another forty per cent of the state’s population to be captured, especially at the grassroots level.

In a remark, the Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, Doctor Faisal Shuaib identified Ogun State as one of the foremost states in the utilisation of the vaccine and solicited the cooperation of the people towards flattening the curve of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Also, the Representative of the World Health Organization, WHO, in the state, Doctor Dele David and the General Manager, Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund, NSSF, Doctor Chinneye Nwoko, promised their continued support towards ensuring the success of the mass vaccination exercise. 

Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Doctor Tomi Coker who said about one hundred and fifty thousand people had been fully vaccinated while over three hundred thousand others had received the first jab in the state, explained that the campaign was part of efforts to reduce the spread of the virus ahead of the festive season.

The Oyo State Government says 90,000 people have so far received Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines in the state. 

This was revealed during a sensitization programme on COVID-19 vaccine safety for religious leaders organised by the Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace in conjunction with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, at the University of Ibadan, Wednesday. 

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan warned Nigerians against possibility of reinfection by the Covid-19 pandemic. 

He therefore urged all to adhere to COVID-19 protocols and guidelines to prevent possible re-infection and adverse effect of the virus. 

The Deputy Governor referred to cases where vaccinated individuals were re-infected, charging all to adhere to the protocols as the vaccine does not provide full protection from the scourge. 

Engineer Olaniyan said “the emergence of COVID-19 has brought a stronger unity between the two faiths of Christianity and Islam, as both religions have form a united front to fight a common enemy”.

He enjoined both sides of the divide to further strengthen the fragile religious unity and tolerance, calling for a strong, virile and peaceful coexistence. 

Speaking earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Muyideen Olatunji allayed the fears surrounding the vaccines and laid to rest conspiracy theories rising from posts making the round on social media about the vaccines. 

Dr. Olatunji assured residents of the vaccine’s safety, adding that the state ran a forensic study, sterility test and got good results before it started administering the vaccine on its people, with the governor receiving the first dose of the vaccine.

The Ogun State Government  in collaboration with Development Partners in the health sector has commenced the administration of the second dose Covid 19 vaccination in line with the guidelines from National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, to residents that have taken the first dose in designated facilities across the State.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker who confirmed this in Abeokuta said the exercise which began this week would be held through 5th July for all residents and clients that had received the first dose with a minimum of  six weeks interval and above between the first and second dose.


Dr Coker advised residents to present their vaccination cards at Health facilities where they got the first dose to receive the second dose. 
She encouraged the residents of the state to take advantage of the exercise to get their second dose vaccination and be protected against the Covid 19 virus.
