Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has paraded two suspects with forty kegs of thirty litres of automotive gas oil, also known as diesel. 

The suspects David Momodu and Olakunle Babatunde were arrested while conveying the stolen diesel to Omi Adio in a bus.

Also, another suspect, Oriyomi Abidemi was paraded for rape and threat to the life of one Roqeebat Waheed.

The alleged rapist, Oriyomi denied the allegation as he claimed that the victim was his lover.

While parading the suspects, the NSCDC Commandant in Oyo State, Mr Micheal Adaralewa said the Anti-Vandalism Squad arrested the suspects who specialized in sabotaging the government’s efforts.

He noted that the alleged rapist was an okada rider who took the victim to an unknown place and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her. 

Mr Adaralewa, therefore, promised that the corps would not rest on its oars in tackling vandalism and other criminal activities across the state to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property. 

The Oyo State NSCDC boss, therefore, promised to charge the suspects to court after property investigations.

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has solicited the support of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, in collectively waging war against insecurity through fair and balanced reportage.

The NSCDC commandant in Oyo State, Mr. Michael Adaralewa stated this when he led the management of the corps on a courtesy visit to Radio Nigeria, Ibadan Zonal Station at the Broadcasting House, Dugbe, Ibadan.

Mr. Adaralewa said the visit to FRCN became imperative in order to forge a harmonious working relationship in order to nip the issue of insecurity bedeviling the nation in the bud.

The NSCDC commandant explained that the professionalism which Radio Nigeria is known for would go a long way in ensuring harmonious relationship between the corps and FRCN in the area of media security.

He noted that the NSCDC was ready to strategize, restructure, and re-gig the architecture of the corps towards achieving a crime-free society. 

Mr. Adaralewa stated further that the insecurity issues in Oyo State had become an emerging threat which requires the collaborative efforts of all and sundry. 

The Oyo State NSCDC boss hinted that the corps had created a female armed group squad that would be strategically stationed in different schools to reduce the spate of kidnapping in learning environment. 

Mr. Adaralewa added that the corps would deploy some patrol officers to all FRCN facilities to safeguard the lives of staff and government property in the state.

Reacting, the acting Zonal Director, FRCN, Ibadan Zonal Station, Mrs. Bolanle Owoyemi said the visit of the NSCDC management came at a perfect time.

Mrs. Owoyemi observed that kidnapping, banditry, pipeline vandalism, abduction of students and other related crimes are on the increase which needed a quick intervention from the NSCDC and other security agencies in Oyo State.

The FRCN boss noted that the corporation would do all it could, to assist the corps by highlighting the activities of NSCDC in fighting insecurity on its platform. 

Mrs. Owoyemi therefore called on other security agencies to emulate the NSCDC by partnering media houses to collectively reduce crimes and criminalities to the barest minimum.

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has deployed two thousand eight hundred personnel for the forthcoming local government elections fixed for Saturday in Oyo State. 

NSCDC commandant in Oyo State, Mr Iskilu Akinsanya stated this at the Command’s State Headquarters, Agodi, Ibadan during a security briefing that encompasses all Divisional Officers across the 33 local governments and 35 LCDAs in the state. 

Mr. Akinsanya called on the general public in the state to support the government by participating without fear as the Corps is fully ready to protect lives and properties of the citizens of the State. 

He stressed that all officers and men of the corps will be on duty on Election Day as undercover officers, Agro Ranger and Counter terrorism Unit of the Corps will be deployed to all flash spots in the State. 

Meanwhile, Mr. Akinsanya has charged the officers and men of the corps that would work in 3,886 wards and 4,783 polling booths in the state to abide by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission’s (OYSIEC) election guidelines and be good ambassadors of the NSCDC.

He also enjoined the traditional rulers, Baales, community leaders, religious leaders and landlords’ associations to warn their subjects, congregants and tenants to conduct themselves in a manner that would not bring violence to their vicinity. 

Commandant Akinsanya stated further that the command and other security agencies are ready to deal decisively with anyone attempting to breach the peace in the state during and after the local government elections. 

The Oyo State NSCDC Commandant, also enjoined the voters to observe all COVID-19 protocols during the election and conduct themselves in an orderly and peaceful manner during and after the election.

Effective communication between mother and child has been identified as a key factor to early detection of sexual and gender-based violence in children.

A public speaker, Mr Anthony Fasehun stated this in a lecture entitled “Responding to the crime of child defilement” at a 2-day seminar organised by Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Oyo State Command.

Mr Fasheun said building a bond between parents and children would enhance cordial relationship that would encourage an open communication to avoid keeping sexual violence secret.

He noted that sound parenting education was key if there would be a stop to any form of violence towards children, especially the girl-child.

Mr Fasheun opined that monitoring the character and movement of children would build support and awareness among all stakeholders in order to ensure adequate protection.

Another speaker, Mrs Ibukun Otesile said the role of community in preventing children from sexual and gender violence could not be overemphasised.

She said people should shun the act of shielding sexual violence suspects but work collectively with relevant stakeholders to reduce the menace to the barest minimum.

Mrs Otesile added that the community should always encourage and support victims of child violence to the nearest hospital for prompt attention.

Some mothers at the conference expressed appreciation and promised readiness to support the law and protect their children against any form of violence.

Contributing, the guest of honour, wife of Oyo State governor, Mrs Omini Makinde who spoke through the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Diaspora, Mrs Bolanle Sarumi-Aliu, said mothers should deploy all means possible to protect their children and safeguard their tomorrow.

Mrs Makinde therefore called on government at all levels to partner the relevant stakeholders in collectively fight against Sexual and Gender Based Violence, SGDV.

Earlier, while declaring the conference open, NSCDC commandant in Oyo state, Mr Iskilu Akinsanya, said the conference became imperative in order to sensitive the public on what to do reduce the menace.

The two day capacity building programme with the theme “Responding to the crime of the child defilement” featured different activities including presentation of award to some distinguished officers of the NSCDC.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, have called on the public to adhere strictly to the guidelines/rules of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, to stop the spread of Coronavirus across Oyo State.

NSCDC Commandant in Oyo state, Alhaji Iskilu Akinsanya made this known while declaring open a day training exercise for officers of the Command on the Role of Security Personnel in Containment of COVID-19 Outbreak.

Commandant Akinsanya said if people could follow the laid-down rules for Covid-19, officers and men would treat them professionally.

While speaking on the role and responsibilities of security agencies, Alhaji Iskilu admonished the officers and men to implement government’s directives on curfew and interstate lockdown with the fear of God and professionalism.

He encouraged them to cooperate with sister agencies and relevant authorities such as NCDC by ensuring consistency of messages to communities and share their feedback with relevant authorities.

Meanwhile, the corps had earlier busted a mosque at Ikolaba Area of Ibadan where religious activities were taking place, but the faithful fled on sighting the security personnel before they could make any arrest.

The NSCDC boss therefore warned all religious bodies in the state to obey the law and comply with the rules and regulations regarding the containment of Covid-19, as anybody that errs will face full wrath of the law.
