A couple identified as London and Blessing Omoru has been reportedly kidnapped on their farm in a village in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the couple were on their farm at Ori-Omipupa village via Agric Area when gunmen invaded the area by shooting sporadically to the air to create fear around 9:50 PM.

A villager told our correspondent that, the gunmen entered the farm settlement and were shooting, in the process they kidnapped two persons.

The villager explained that the native security guards named Kiriji Heritage Defender got the information about the kidnapping, trailed those guys but they could not apprehend them.

A security source informed our correspondent that the gunmen kidnapped the couple with the intention to source ransom from the community because the kidnap took place in-between Esa-Oka and Esa-Odo.

When the spokesperson of Osun State Police Command, Mrs Yemisi Opalola was contacted, she hinted that at about 10:45 PM one Moses Imomiuku of Ayetoro Street reported at Esa Oke Division that around 10 PM he received a distress call from one Andrew Omoru that his parents were kidnapped at farm settlement.

She stated that upon the report the Divisional Police Officer led operatives to the scene with the combined effort of Vigilante and men of Odua Peoples Congress(OPC) to rescue the victims.

The police spokesperson said a motorcycle belonging to one of the victims was recovered,while police men are still combing the areas to rescue the victims.

The Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, has stepped down the names of a chairman and two councilor nominee during the screening of Local Government caretaker nominees.

Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Timothy Owoeye during the screening exercise stepped down the name of the chairman nominee for Olaoluwa Local Government for attacking member representing Olaoluwa State Constituency during a protest.

Mr. Owoeye who maintained that the Assembly would not condone violent acts by political office holders, said he would write to the governor to replace the nominee.

Also, two councilor nominees from Ifedayo Local Government were stepped down.

The Speaker, however, stressed that only caretaker Nominees who presented their tax clearance to the Assembly would be confirmed.

Mr. Owoeye also commended his colleagues for their contributions during the screening despite closing late yesterday at 7:30pm.

10 Local government, 11 Local Council Development Area, LCDA, and 4 Area Council nominees were screen on the floor of the Osun State House of Assembly in Osogbo, Osun State. 

Meanwhile, the Speaker commiserated with the family of the local security agent who died during the search and rescue operation launched to rescue the abducted passengers in Obokun Local Government Area of the state.

While selecting lawmakers to pay a condolence visit to the family of the deceased, the speaker appreciated the local security outfit for their determination and patriotism.

A new Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mr Agunbiade Oluyemi Olasore has assumed office at the Nigeria Police Zonal Office, Zone 11, Osogbo, Osun State.

Mr Agunbiade Oluyemi Olasore hails from Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State.

He attended the University of Ibadan where he read Physical and Health Education and was a classroom teacher at Sekona Grammar School, Osun State before he joined the Nigeria Police Force.

Mr Olasore had served in many police formations across the country including Lagos, Oyo, Rivers, Kogi and Kebbi States as Commissioner of Police before his elevation as an Assistant Inspector General.

The new Zone 11 AIG also attended many professional courses within and outside Nigeria including United Nations Peace Keeping Missions where he was an instructor.
