With the Osun State Local Government elections just hours away, the Forum of Labour Party Candidates has urged for a postponement of the polls, citing the current security situation in the state.
The call was made by the Chairman of the Forum, Mr. Oyebode Babalola, who is also the Labour Party candidate for Osogbo Local Government when he ddressed the media in Osogbo, emphasizing the need for the delay.
Mr. Babalola explained that the decision was necessary due to ongoing conflicts between the two major political parties in the state, which have escalated following a recent Court of Appeal ruling in Akure.
He stressed that the primary concern of the Labour Party is the safety and well-being of the electorate.
Echoing his concerns, the Osun State Chairman of the Labour Party, Prince Adebayo Bello, revealed that as of 4 pm on Friday, the party had not been able to inspect the necessary election materials provided by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC).
Prince Bello also noted that the Labour Party has three chairmanship candidates and eighteen councilorship candidates participating in the upcoming elections.
