More than 72 hours after the announcement of his impeachment, the embattled Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Mr Olakunle Oluomo has described the development as a joke, insisting that he remained the Speaker.

Mr Oluomo who maintained that the procedure did not follow due process said a committee ought to have been constituted to investigate the allegations and ensure fair hearing.

He disclosed that, he had approached the Ogun State High Court to challenge the procedure of the purported impeachment.

Addressing journalists at his official residence in Abeokuta, Mr Oluomo who allegedly accused the aggrieved lawmakers of terrorizing him at the House since the commencement of his second term in office, maintained that the allegations of financial misappropriation against him were baseless.

The embattled Speaker pointed out that he had to break his silence over what he termed “the drama staged by the lawmakers” because the expected intervention by Governor Dapo Abiodun and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state did not yield any good result.

Mr Oluomo was impeached on Tuesday by 18 out of the 26 members of the House of Assembly while his long – standing opponent in the contest for Speakership, a lawmaker representing Odeda state constituency, Mr Oludaisi Elemide was sworn in as his replacement.

The 18 lawmakers had accused Mr Oluomo of offences ranging from gross misconduct to high handedness, poor leadership style and lack of transparency among others.
