Ogun State government has raised concern that plank sellers across the state have reduced the standard dimension of their planks which does not conform to the National Building Code.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Tunji Odunlami who made this known in Abeokuta while meeting the Ogun State Plank Sellers and Sawmills Association, cautioned the plank sellers dealing in substandard products against selling such to developers, which could put lives and property in jeopardy.

Mr. Odunlami said the government would investigate the source of substandard planks and put a stop to it as the Ogun State Building Production Management Authority has been saddled with the responsibility of monitoring the quality of materials used in construction.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Forestry, Mr. Adebola Benson in a remark, called for a joint fight against the menace of using substandard materials for building to prevent crises.

The Chairman, Sawmills Association, Lafenwa Branch, Evangelist Yemi Shorinola while responding gave assurance of the association’s readiness to ensure that required standards were met by plank sellers in the state.
