Ogun State Police Command has arrested six robbery suspects over a recent attack at an estate around Olomoore, Abeokuta.

According to a statement by the command’s spokesman, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspects had invaded the estate with a cutlass and inflicted injuries on the residents and also dispossessed them of handsets, laptop, cash, and other valuables.

He explained that the arrest of the suspects was made possible following the tracking of a member of the gang.

Mr. Oyeyemi said the gang was trailed to the house of an herbalist at Olomoore area of Abeokuta which serves as their hideout.

He noted that robbery suspects also resisted arrest during which one of them was shot, and five others arrested, alongside the herbalist.

Recovered from the robbery suspects are one laptop, five handsets, a cutlass, and charms.

The statement further noted that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Keneth Ebrimson has ordered the transfer of the suspect to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, for further investigation.

Men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Ogun State Command have arrested the president of the Students’ Union Government of Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Adegboye Olatunji and one Olarewaju Taiwo for alleged cultism.

A statement by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi said the duo were arrested following an information received from members of the public that some group of people suspected to be cultists were sighted in a bush at Gbogidi area of Ilaro where they were trying initiate new members into their dreaded group.

Mr. Oyeyemi explained that the Divisional Police Officer, Ilaro Division, Mr. Olayemi Jacob who received the information, mobilized his patrol team and moved to the scene where the two suspects were arrested, while others escaped through the bush.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kenneth Ebrimson had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the anti-cultists section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCID, for discreet investigation.

Meanwhile, the authorities of the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, says it has suspended the institution’s SUG president, Adegboye Olatunji.

A statement by the institution’s Deputy Registrar, Sola Abiala said the suspension of Adegboye was in line with the polytechnic’s zero tolerance for cultism, pending his appearance before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee, SDC, to establish his culpability or otherwise.

The Ogun State Police Command is investigating a 56 year old suspect, Salahudeen Jamiu for allegedly killing a housewife and mother of four while carrying out abortion on her. 

The suspected fake doctor was apprehended by the police on Thursday 24th October for allegedly committing the crime at his maternity centre located at Onipanu area of Ifo Local Government in Ogun State.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi told journalists in Abeokuta that the woman’s husband had reported to the police that he discovered his wife’s corpse outside a building in the area. 

The police spokesman said the man narrated how he went to the clinic and found it deserted after receiving a call from one Dupe Odebunmi who claimed to be a nurse that his wife, Kehinde Olakitan was sick and on admission at Mojisola Maternity Clinic belonging to the suspect. 

The PPRO disclosed that the alleged quack doctor who took to his heels after the incident was tracked down by police detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Onipanu Division, Magdalene Adeniji. 

He claimed that the suspect admitted to carrying out an abortion on the deceased who was brought to him her friend, Dupe Odebunmi and that the mother of four died in the process while he dumped her corpse close to the woman’s residence out of fear. 

Mr. Oyeyemi said the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital Ota, for autopsy while the suspect had been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for proper investigation and prosecution on the directive of the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Bashir Makama.

Ogun State Police Command says it is winning the war against kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state.

The state commissioner of police, Mr. Bashir Makama disclosed this while parading some suspects arrested for alleged involvement in kidnapping.

The arrested suspects were said to have kidnapped three persons alongside a Deaconess of the Redeemed Christian Church of God and the recent on Sallah day at Ode Omi.

The three arrested suspects are Bamidele Adam, Jelili Adam and Azeez Sanni.

The police also paraded two suspects involved in the murder of an Okada rider.

The police commissioner then warned criminals to keep off the state as his men are battle ready to ensure the state is rid of criminals.
