Seeking the support of Ondo State traditional rulers towards the maintenance of peace by the relevant authorities has become imperative particularly now that the state is set for governorship election comes October 10th, 2020.

 Chairman, Independence National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mammud Yakubu made the remark while addressing Ondo State obas during an interactive session with the traditional rulers in Akure.

 The INEC head, who harped on the need for the obas to prevail on their subjects towards the conduct of a peaceful governorship election in the sunshine state, implored the traditional rulers not to relent in their prayers for peace before, during and after the gubernatorial election in the state.

Professor Mammud Yakubu informed the gathering that the commission would do everything possible to promptly deploy materials to every part of the state, including the remote areas so as to avoid unnecessary delay of the vote processing.

Earlier, Chairman, Ondo State Council of Traditional Rulers, Oba Fredrick Akinruntan, the Olugbo of Ugboland lauded the commission’s efforts in the just concluded Edo State governorship election, noting that  such efforts should be replicated in Ondo State election come  October 10th, 2020.

 Oba Akinruntan, on behalf of other traditional rulers in the state, promised INEC of the needed support from the kings for the conduct of the state’s gubernatorial election.

In a related development, all sensitive materials for the conduct of Ondo State governorship election have been delivered to Central Bank of Nigeria by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for onward transmission to Ondo State comes October 5th, 2020.

 INEC Chairman, Professor Mammud Yakubu made the declaration while addressing journalists in Akure.

Professor Yakubu, who submitted that INEC had put necessary machinery in place for seamless delivery of all election materials in the state, hinted that more than five thousand card reader machines from Oyo would be deployed for the governorship election in Ondo State.

The INEC chairman while informing the gathering about the need for peace before, during and after the election, informed the gathering that the National Peace Committee under the leadership of the former head of state, General Abdulsam Abubakar had made necessary arrangement for all candidates in the election to sign peace treaty by next week Tuesday.

Professor Yakubu, who implored all journalists billed to cover the election to increase the flow of voters’ education, also charged the media personnel to enlighten people more on the need to give attention to COVID-19 ameliorating measures.

The National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus has called on President Muhammad Buhari to ensure that INEC Conducts free and fair governorship elections in Ondo and Edo states to further boost the trust Nigerians have in his administration.
Prince Secondus made the remark while addressing PDP faithful during the party’s gubernatorial campaign flag off in Akure.
The PDP National Chairman who chastised the ruling party over what he called poor governance in the nation warned APC of the grave consequence for rigging the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo and Edo states.
He charged members of the party to vote enmass for PDP during the October 10th governorship election in the sunshine state.
Also speaking, the Chairman, PDP governors’ forum, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto and Seyi Makinde of Oyo said the recent increase in pump price of petrol and electricity tariff were enough for the people to vote against the APC government in Ondo state.

Earlier, PDP flag bearer in the forthcoming election, Mr Eyitayo Jegede who received the party’s flag from the National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus implored the people to vote for him massively in the governorship election adding that with him as Ondo state governor there would be drastic reduction in tuition in tertiary institutions among others.
Mr Jegede submitted that APC had nothing tangible to offer the state considering the high level of poverty ravaging the masses of the sunshine state.
The Rally was attended by many Big Wigs within the PDP.

Ahead of October 10, 2020 governorship election in Ondo state, two candidates have emerged from two primaries conducted by the Social Democratic Party, SDP in the state.

While the Dele Thomas led Exco elected Alhaji Adekunle Saliu, the Dele Ogunbameru led Exco elected Prince Peter Oyeleye Fasua.

The two candidates emerged through a parallel Primaries held in Ondo and Akure on Thursday July 24, 2020.

With this development, the Ondo state chapter of the party has been factionalised ahead of governorship election in October this year.

While the Dele Thomas Thomas led Exco was having its Primaries in Ondo town, the Dele Ogunbameru faction was in Akure at the party secretariat, behind Peter’s Secondary School Akure conducting another primaries in line with Federal Government guidelines on Covid-19.

Adekunle Saliu emerged through a “yes” vote by delegates before some national officers of the party, Peter Fasua was elected by delegates from the across eighteen Local Government areas of the state.

The primary election that produced Saliu was witnessed by some national executives of the party led by its National Secretary who also doubles as the chairman of the Primary Election Committee, Alhaji Hussein Saleh Dass. Other national officers of the party present at the event include the National Publicity Secretary, Mr Alfa Mohammed and the National Welfare Officer of the party, Prince Wale Aladeoba.

Also present at the primary were the Acting Ondo State Chairman of SDP, Barrister Dele Thomas, former Ondo State Chairman and national leader of the party, Chief Korede Duyile, State Secretary of the party and Mr Festus Agboola.

In his acceptance speech, the governorship candidate, Alhaji Saliu expressed his gratitude to the 360 delegates for their firm belief in his aspiration and great vision for Ondo State.

He promised to lead the party to victory in the October 10, 2020 governorship election of Ondo State. Alhaji Saliu also assured of running a human development based government if elected.

“After getting elected by the grace of God, serious efforts will be geared toward making the party very stable and I will also address the issue of members that have cultivated the habit of selling out SDP during elections.”

However, Peter Fasua was elected under a peaceful atmosphere as the governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party, (SDP) in the upcoming October 10 election in the state.

After the exercise, Prince Peter Oyeleye Fasua emerged winner out of the three Aspirants through a process monitored by INEC.

The National Leader of the party, Mr. Bode Falade who led the team of Electoral Committee commended the delegates for their peaceful conduct.

Also present at the event was the chairman, Mr Dele Ogunbameru.

Mr Falade thereafter presented the certificate of return to the winner of the primaries and the result of the election to the representatives of INEC at the meeting.

In his acceptance speech, the candidate of the party in Oct 10 governorship election in Ondo State Prince Peter Fasua said that he was overwhelmed with the massive support given him by the members of the party.

He noted that he has lofty idea as to how to fix Ondo State in the areas of Education, Economy, Agriculture, Culture and Tourism, Natural Resources and a host of other sectors.
