Governor Senator Ademola Adeleke say he will make the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, OSBC, compete favourably with other broadcast outfits in the world.

Governor Adeleke stated this while inaugurating a multi-million naira six new digital transmitters, digital studios equipment, inverter and generators Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, OSBC, Ile-Awiye in Oke-Baale, Osogbo, Orisun FM, Ile-Ife and Reality Radiovision, Iwo.

He said the decision to upgrade the operation of the broadcasting station with the new transmitters and digital equipment was to satisfy the yearning the people of the state for quality programmes.

Governor Adeleke, while delivering his address, announced the approval of immediate conversion of all OSBC freelance into permanent staff.

Governor Adeleke urged the management and staff of OSBC to be effective in their duties to justify government’s investment.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on OSBC Matters, Dr. Femi Ademola had commended Governor Adeleke for changing the face of the station, saying it is a history in making, adding that the new studio would not serve as only social oriented platform, but generate revenue for the state.

In his Goodwill message, the Chairman Board of OSBC, Mr. Mayowa Oloso appreciated Governor Adeleke and the PDP administration in the state for fixing all the challenges in civil service.

Mr. Oloso noted that as the world is moving very fast, meeting up with the standards in the contemporary world must always be prioritised.

Also, the Chairman House Committee on Media and Public Affairs Mr. Adekunle Oladimeji, assured that his Committee would perform oversight and monitoring function to ensure the maintenance of the transmitters and equipment purchased by the government.

Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, wants the management of Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, OSBC, to intensify more on revenue generation.

The Chairman House of Assembly Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Prince Adekunle Oladimeji made the call during the visit of the Committee to Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment and the State Broadcasting Station, Osogbo.

Prince Oladimeji explained that, with the facilities put in place by the State Government, the Station needed to put all mercenaries in motion to boost and sustain its revenue in the best interest of the State.

While emphasizing that one of key roles of the Legislators roles is oversight functions, The Chairman House Committee on Media and Public Affairs said Government Facilities were not Charity Homes hence the need to properly utilize its facilities and Institutions efficiently.

Prince Oladimeji appreciated the workers of the Broadcasting Corporation and the State Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment supporting the Commissioner, Olumo Kolapo Alimi.

Earlier in his remarks at the Ministry , the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi appreciated the Committee for doing the needful and performing their vital role of oversight functions.

Also in a remark, The Chairman Board ,OSBC, Mr. Mayowa Oloso noted that power outrage had been the problem of the corporation and retierated his Commitments towards giving the Station better facelift as well as to improve on Internal generated revenue.

In her words, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment, Mrs Modupe Irelewuyi solicited government intervention on modern day equipments for the ministry.

Also, the Permanent Secretary of OSBC, Mr. Rasheed Folaranmi commended the State Government for the procurement of some equipments and the lawmakers for their kind gesture towards the corporation.

The places visited including; ministry news room, editing suite, photo units, binding room and government printing press, OSBC recording studio, editing suite, transmitter radio and television house, generator /power house amongst others.

A veteran journalist and former Director-General, Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, OSBC, Mr. Wale Idowu has renewed the call on media personnel to imbibe training and re-training for efficient service delivery.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria in Ilesa, on this year’s World Radio Day, the former OSBC DG described radio as the most effective information tool for the masses, hence operators of radio stations should ensure objectivity and accuracy in their programmes.

Mr. Idowu also advised broadcasters to place professionalism and social responsibility above commercialisation in the discharge of their duty.

In his contribution, a management staff of a private radio station in Ile-Ife, Mr. Adebola Abdullahi said he could not do without listening to the radio every day for information, education, and entertainment.

Mr. Abdullahi who appreciated the contributions of broadcasters and owners of radio stations to democracy and national development appealed to the federal and state governments to support the media.

Other listeners stressed the need for the government to license community radio stations to further inform and educate the people at the grassroots.
