Political office holders have been urged to prioritize the well-being and future of citizens.

The Grand Chief Imam of Offa Town, Kwara State, Sheik Muideen Salmon made the call during the annual Ramadan lecture of Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, lecture titled, ”Duties of Leaders and Followers”, held at the assembly premises, Osogbo.

Sheik Salmon explained that a leader is expected to be selfless, who inspires and energizes followers, fostering a positive and productive work environment, setting positive examples among others.

He advised leaders in various political offices to lead followers to the promised land.

The Chief Imam pointed out qualities of followers which entail obeying leaders, rules guiding the society, humility and courage among others.

In a remark, OSHA Speaker, Prince Adewale Egbedun implored well-meaning individuals to assist the needy during and after the period of Ramadan.

Prince Egbedun also called on the faithful to seek forgiveness from God and achieve their desires.

Highlights of the programme were prayers for the state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, the speaker, Prince Adewale Egbedun, members of Osun State House of Assembly, the state and Nigeria as a whole.

Osun State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Mr Abiodun Awolola as the Chairman, State House of Assembly Board alongside six others nominated by the State Governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola.

During The sitting which was presided over by the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Timothy Owoeye, the Lawmakers took turns to ask questions about the changes they intend to bring on board in rebuilding the service commission. 

In separate Remarks, Members representing, Obokun, Boripe and Ayedaade Mr Adewumi Adeyemi, Mr Femi Popoola and Mr Taiwo Adebayo Noted that the nominees possessed both political and legislative experience to serve the State.

The member representing Irewole/Isokan State constituency, Mr Marouf Olanrewaju Moved the motion for confirmation of the appointment of the nominees and was seconded by Member representing Osogbo, Mr Taofeek Badamosi.

In a remark, The Speaker, Mr Timothy Owoeye who noted that they should accept to function as a call to serve urged the nominees to cooperate with members in moving the State Assembly forward.

Mr Owoeye stressed that the State Governor would do the formal inauguration of the board in due time.

Those screened included, Mr Omidiora Olalekan, Alhaji Kareem Afolabi, Mr Akinola Asifat, Mr.Ismael Kolawole, Mr Ajibola Akinloye, Mr Isreal Aloba and Mr.Abiodun Awolola.

The speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, Mr. Timothy Owoeye, says the vision of the founding fathers of Nigeria shall not be in vain in spite of the recent insecurity challenges.

The speaker in a statement by his Media Aide, Mr Kunle Alabi to commemorate Nigeria’s Democracy Day called on all lovers of peace and freedom to rise against insecurity, a menace that is eaten deep in almost every part of the country.

He admonished people fanning the embers of discord to have a rethink, saying an unsecured atmosphere has nothing good to offer other than economic regression, environmental problems and conflict in the social structure.

Mr. Owoeye stressed that a country envisioned by the founding fathers is possible if Nigerians are patriotic, and politicians go into politics with the mindset to serve with all sincerity.

The speaker urged Nigerians to stand up in support of one indivisible country where all tribes and ethnic groups will flourish and attain its potentials.

The Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, Mr. Timothy Owoeye has urged Nigerians to be committed to the sustainability of one indivisible Nigeria.

The speaker in a statement by his Press Secretary, Mr. Kunle Alabi to commemorate the 60th Independence anniversary of Nigeria said, all hands must be on deck to save the country from the brink of failure.

Mr. Owoeye maintained that he believes in one indivisible country, saying irrespective of predictions of the naysayers that the country has failed, Nigeria will bounce back to her rightful position.

He said though the economic development of the country is not progressing and there are several security challenges, it is not enough for the country to be labeled as failed.

The speaker however admitted that the development witnessed in the country is not commensurate with the 60 years of independence.

Mr Owoeye also condemned the secession being promoted by some few disgruntled Nigerians, cautioning those calling for break-up of the country to have a re-think and jettison such negative thoughts.

Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, has passed into law a bill for the prohibition of kidnapping, abduction of persons and other related crimes.

This follows the motion moved by Majority Leader of the House, Mr Maruf Olanrewaju for the third reading of the bill and seconded by member representing Ife North, Mr Tunde Olatunji.

The House recommended the death penalty for those found guilty of kidnapping and ritual killing, while those aiding and abetting the crime are to face life imprisonment.

In his remark, the Speaker, Mr Timothy Owoeye, said it now a crime to find human parts with anybody or engaging in kidnapping and abduction.

Mr Owoeye who noted that kidnapping and ritual killing have become issues of concern in the state said the signing of the bill into law would put an end to kidnapping, banditry and ritual killing.

While the commending his colleagues for their contribution to the passage of the bill, the Speaker said when the bill is signed by the governor, the punishment would serve as a deterrent to perpetrators and others.
