Some parts of Osogbo the capital of Osun state were Friday afternoon thrown into palpable fear in as a Police officer allegedly shot a truck driver.

A resident of the city who claimed to witness the incident told Radio Nigeria that the deceased who was driving a borehole drilling truck was brutalized before he was shot dead at the Ota-Efun area Osogbo.

The drilling truck, it was gathered, broke down along Ikirun way around 10:30am.

It was gathered that the driver and his crew allegedly blocked the road while trying to fix the vehicle before the police got to the place.

Another witness who identified himself as Olu told Radio Nigeria that the police officers who came down from a mini commercial bus (Korope) hit the driver with a shovel under the truck before he was shot with a pistol in the chest, while the police officers immediately took off their uniforms and ran away.

The corpse of the driver was allegedly taken away by the police officers before the mob could gather.

As the angry mob advanced to the Ota Efun police station, police fired live bullets to scare the Crowd, but the mob refused to leave the Ikirun Osogbo highway around Ota Efun.

Chairman of NURTW Oroki park Osogbo, Adewale Kareem (Asiri Eniba) who ran into scenario pleaded with the the angry protesters and encourage them to open the blocked road.

However, efforts to speak to the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police, Osun State Command, Mrs Yemisi Opalola was not successful as she did not pick calls to her telephone.

There was pandemonium on Tuesday morning at Ota-Efun Area of Osogbo as suspected thugs went on rampage over the alleged death of their leader.

The deceased, Ismail Daduro popularly known as “Jumong” was said to have given up the ghost following a protracted strange illness.

He was said to have been taken to different places to seek deliverance before his reported death on Tuesday morning.

Radio Nigeria gathered that members of his group went on rampage at the hearing of Daduro’s death in faraway Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

According to a witness, gang members of Daduro’s group started destroying property and molesting people at Ota-Efun in Osogbo claiming that their leader was killed. 

They also told traders not to open their shop for business today and tomorrow.

It was also learnt that Ota-Efun Motor Park was not spared in the dastardly act as several vehicles were reportedly damaged.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Osun State Command, Mrs Yemisi Opalola said police had been deployed to the area to ensure adequate security of lives and property.

Mrs Opalola said normalcy had returned to the area with the presence of the Area Commander, Divisional Police Officer, DPO of Ota-Efun Police Station and the Anti-Cultism Unit of the command.

She enjoined residents of the area to go about their daily activities without fear.

When Radio Nigeria visited the scene, mobile policemen were seen patrolling the area, while vehicles destroyed littered the popular Ilorin Motor Park in Osogbo.
