Edo state Deputy Governor and the Chairman, Local Government Congresses in Oyo state, Philip Shuaibu has said the consensus on leadership positions of the party for congresses is working.

He said this while speaking with newsmen after monitoring the Local Government congresses in the state.

The Edo deputy governor said he was not surprised with the development because the last week ward congresses was also peaceful.

He said the peaceful coordination of PDP members in Oyo state, coupled with the consensus is a victory for the ruling party in future elections.

Some of the places visited by the Deputy Governor with some of the members of the committee while monitoring the local government PDP congress were Ibadan Southeast and Ibadan Northwest Local Governments to monitor the congresses. 

Shuaibu said; “Apart from the venues of the congresses I personally visited, I have been getting reports from other committee members we sent to other zones and Local Governments that it is been very peaceful and coordinated. We expected that because the main work was at the ward level. 

“What we are seen today is the affirmation of what happened last week and we are to go to fulfil the constitutional provision. Which means even when there is consensus agreement, we must go to the field and affirm what we called consensus agreement. With reports we are getting from other local government and other zones, I am happy that he consensus is working with the results we are getting from the field.”

Also reacting to the peaceful conduct of the congresses, the Chairman Local Organising Committee, Senator Hosea Agboola said the peaceful conduct of the congress was the efforts put in place by the governor of the state, Engineer Seyi Makinde.

Voting is yet to commence in the local government election at some polling units in Akinyele local government area of Oyo state.

Radio Nigeria Correspondent who monitored the situation reports that as at past 9 o clock in the morning, electorates have been at the polling units looking for their names on the pasted voter’s registers while waiting for the electoral officers.

Also, personnel of the National Security and civil defence corps, NSCDC were seen at each of the polling units visited.

Meanwhile, restriction of people and vehicular movements were not fully observed as people were seen going about their normal duties.

At Ojoo motor parks, Drivers plying inter states were busy calling on would-be passengers.
Police officers, however, mounted roadblocks at Sango and Ojoo, preventing people who are not on non essential duties from going ahead with their trips.
