Men of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a 24-year-old final-year student of the University of Port Harcourt, Victor Ochonogor, for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend, Success Regha, to death on Monday.

Ochonogor, a student of Applied and Industrial Chemistry, reportedly committed the offence at 10, Osahon Street, Ogheghe Quarters, off Sapele Road, Benin City.

He and his late girlfriend were said to have locked themselves inside the house when the violence broke out and started stabbing each other.

The state Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Dankwara, who disclosed this at a press conference on Tuesday in Benin, said the suspect’s landlord, Emmanuel Momoh, reported the case to the police.

Ochonogor was said to have stabbed the deceased in the neck and chest with a knife.

The suspect told journalists that he had been dating his late girlfriend for three years, adding that she came from Asaba to Benin to visit him, and while they were together, she accused him of being a kidnapper and he was angered by the accusation.

I have been dating her for three years now and she accused me of being a kidnapper. I asked her why she was accusing me of being a kidnapper,” he said.

Also, one Etinosa Omoregie attached to the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service was paraded before journalists for alleged murder.

The suspect, the police boss said, reportedly shot one Eric, who was rushed to a hospital and died.

Other suspects arrested by the police include one Efosa Osayande, 31, for allegedly releasing the nude picture of his ex-girlfriend to the public as well as Friday Igberase for rape.

The Osun State Police has paraded eighteen suspected criminals for various offences including a Traffic Warden Officer, Mr Haruna Yusuf attached to Omuaran Divisional Police Station.

Presenting the suspects, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Olawale Olokode alleged that in January 2019, the Traffic Warden stole a Barreta service Pistol from one late Inspector Ehigimetor Ileso who was his Senior Officer on duty.

Haruna Yusuf allegedly confessed that the late inspector was dismissed upon the loss of the Pistol, a development that resulted in his untimely death.

The Traffic Warden thereafter sold the Pistol to one Eze Chukwudi at the rate of sixty thousand naira, while the said Chukwudi also sold the English Barreta Pistol to a Cult leader at the rate of one hundred and eighty thousand naira.

Similarly, the police presented 21 years old Chinedu Dioha and Joseph Emmanuel who conspired and stole a Mercedes Benz Jeep belonging to the company where they worked in Lagos, but luck ran against them during a police stop and search in Ikire while looking the buyer of the vehicle

Also paraded were a gang of suspected armed robbers of young men aged between 22 and 25 who allegedly robbed one resident of Osogbo, Mr Ojo Adeyeye of his motorcycle and shot him dead.

The motorcycle was later recovered in Ibadan by the police where it was sold to one Akeem at the rate of eighty thousand naira.

Others paraded were alleged to have kidnapped a Bureau de Change operator around Sabo area Osogbo, where he was dispossessed of the sum of two hundred and four thousand naira.

The Police Commissioner said, “all the accused persons confessed to the various offences they were alleged and will be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation”.
