EKSEIC Seeks Parties Compliance with Guidelines on Council Poll

The Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission, EKSIEC has advised Political parties taking part in December Two (2) Council polls to follow guidelines and time table of the election.

EKSIEC Chairman, Retired Justice Cornelius Akintayo, who gave the advice during a meeting with chairmen of Political parties in Ado Ekiti, applauded them for conducting peaceful primaries where chairmanship and counsellorship candidates emerged.

He appealed to candidates of each Political party to embark on peaceful campaign devoid of violence and also sought for the cooperation of all stakeholders in the state.

Retired Justice Akintayo, however, urged candidates of Political parties taking part in the election to obtain their tax clearance certificate to avoid being disqualified from the race.

The EKSIEC Chairman told leaders of Political parties that the Commission was ready to conduct credible Council polls in which other states in the country could be proud of.

In their reactions, the State Chairman, Social Democratic Party, Chief Dele Ekunola and his counterpart from the Young Progressives Party, Mr Owoola Daramola lauded EKSIEC for carrying them along in all its activities.

They implored the Commission to give equal treatment to all Politcal parties taking part in the Election in the interest of peace..

Thirteen Political parties have fielded Chairmanship and counsellorship candidates for the December Two Local Government Election in Ekiti State.

Sensitive Materials Head for Destinations in Ekiti ahead of Saturday’s Polls

Ahead of Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has distributed sensitive materials for the poll to the sixteen local governments in Ekiti State.

The materials such as ballot papers, Result sheets and forms were distributed in the presence of stakeholders including Journalists, security agents and party representatives.  

During the distribution of the materials held at the CBN, Ado-Ekiti, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Professor Ayobami Salami, said the early distribution was to avoid lateness of the materials to the polling units on election day.

He pointed out that everything needed for the smooth conduct of the polls was ready, saying the election would hold as scheduled, as against rumours in some quarters that it would be postponed.

The REC reassured Nigerians that their votes would count, calling on them to come out massively to exercise their franchise during the election.

Speaking on behalf of other political parties, the Chairman, the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC in Ekiti State, Mr. Owoola Daramola expressed satisfaction with the distribution process of the materials and he was optimistic that the election would be transparent.

Earlier during a briefing of Observer groups that would participate in the election in Ekiti State, Professor Salami urged them to be transparent, neutral and avoid partisanship in the discharge of their duties.

He told them not to be judgmental in their reports, saying the legitimacy of the 2023 elections could be affected by their reports, hence they must be factual while giving the reports.

“We expect a final report that will guide us in future elections and the report should look at the entire electoral process, rather than concentrating only on the proceedings of just one day”.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Mr Moronkeji Adesina said the Police in conjunction with other security agencies in the state had prepared to ensure the safety of voters during the polls.

Represented by Mr Olu-Victor Babayemi, the Commissioner of Police noted that a control centre had been created where observations and complaints could be forwarded for quick response.
