The “Nigeria for Women Project” has been flagged off in Ogun State as part of the federal government’s efforts to improve the social and economic status of women in the country.

The official launch of the project in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital also featured the upscaling of the state government’s economic empowerment programme for women tagged, “Okò’wò Dapọ” and the signing of the Executive Bill for 35% Women Inclusion in Government by Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Addressing the people, the Chief of Staff to President Muhamadu Buhari, Professor Ibrahim Gambari expressed optimism that Nigeria would soon become one of the leading promoters of gender equality in the global community. 

Professor Gambari who noted that women remained an indispensable part of humanity, said the successful implementation of the women empowerment project would enable the present administration to overcome insecurity, unemployment and other challenges confronting the country.

In a remark, the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Pauline Tallen said over 260 million naira had been disbursed to more than 2000 women across Ogun State.

Mrs Tallen then urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the grant to grow their businesses.

While flagging off the programme and signing the executive bill, Governor Dapo Abiodun explained that the empowerment programme was targeted at alleviating poverty and increasing the prosperity of women.

Governor Abiodun said the choice of Ogun State as one of the six states in each of the six geo-political zones of the country for the implementation of the Nigeria for Women Project was commendable.

The governor pointed out that the Federal Government’s scheme was in tandem with his administration’s programme on women empowerment.

The appointment of the chief of staff to the president, Professor Ibrahim Gambari has begun to attract comments on the political landscape 

The Chief of Staff to the Ondo State Governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale, who described the appointment as a well thought out one to the benefit of Nigerians, said Professor Gambari was well versed in the nation’s politics as well as grounded in international politics 

On his part the Ondo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr Ade Adetimehin, who described the appointment as a balancing one, said Gambari would do well as an astute administrator, technocrat and academic 

Mr Adetimehin congratulated the President for finding such a man that had it all while, also wished Professor Gambari the best in the new office 

Meanwhile, the Director of Publicity, Ondo State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr Zadok Akintoye sees the appointment of Professor Ibrahim Gambari as a bridge between the northern and southern Nigeria 

Mr Akintoye, who described the appointment as continuity of principle of power sharing, however, hope Gambari would pursue unity of Nigerians and would not replicate allegations of nepotism levied against the late chief of staff Abba Kyari.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has said that the appointment of Professor Ibrahim Gambari as Chief of staff to President Mohammed Buhari would enhance good governance in the country. 

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Kunle Somorin, Governor Abiodun congratulated the newly appointed Chief of Staff to the president and pointed out that his wealth of experience would boost overall development in the country.

Governor Abiodun explained that Professor Gambari’s achievements and contributions to the development of the country could not be overemphasized. 

The governor who expressed delight and confidence in the President’s choice of Professor Gambari, noted that the newly appointed Chief of Staff had built a reputation both locally and internationally in diplomacy and pursuance of democracy.

Governor Abiodun prayed to the Almighty Allah to grant Professor Gambari divine wisdom to carry out his duties for the collective benefit of all Nigerians.
