Pension Transitional Arrangement directorate, PTAD, says transformation of pension administration in Nigeria to the next level through prompt payments of monthly pension benefit remains its priority.

The Executive Secretary, PTAD, Dr Chioma Ejikeme stated this at the Southwest directorate stakeholders’ forum held at Jogor centre, Ibadan.

Dr Ejikeme said the forum became imperative to introduce interactive stakeholders engagement for face to face contact, where important issues would be discussed.

She noted that safety of pensioners was of utmost importance, thus the directorate had opened up more channels of communication and complaints resolution to enable them perform optimally.

Dr Ejikeme stated further that, despite numerous challenges facing the country, PTAD had continued to pay monthly pensions promptly, resolved complaints, cleared accrued arrears and payments of death benefits to some next-of-kins.

“Most recently, on the 14th of December, 2021, PTAD, completed the payments of all outstanding inherited liabilities of some defunct agencies.

Also, the directorate lauched “I AM ALIVE” confirmation platform for online application through smart phone or a computer.

Dr Ejikeme said the platform was designed to enable pensioners to enroll from their homes or neighbourhood unlike the old stressful ways of verification Exercise.

She stated further that the Exercise would take the pensioners through a three step process that ends with a text message.

The directorate also commissioned PTAD office at the Federal Secretariat, Ikolaba, Ibadan.

Reacting, some of the pensioners who were seen in relaxed mood and conducive environment appreciated PTAD for the positive turnaround of pensioners, who had witnessed untold hardship before this time.

They called on federal government not to relent on making life easy for them as they have no more strength to struggle to make end meets.

Pensioners will now heave a sigh of relief as the Pension Transitional Arraignment Directorate, PTAD has introduced a new scheme, named “I AM ALIVE” targeted at reducing the issues senior citizens face during verification exercises.

The Executive Secretary of PTAD, Dr. Chioma Ejikeme stated this in Ibadan at the mop-up verification for pensioners who missed the exercise in 2019.

Dr. Ejikeme said the “I AM ALIVE” scheme came as a solution to all the plight and numerous challenges faced by pensioners as well as PTAD officials.

She said the scheme would provide opportunities for the pensioners to get their pensions as and when due while also reducing the stress they go through during verification exercises.

The PTAD secretary noted that the “I AM ALIVE” scheme was a web-based solution as mobile phones and computer systems could be used for easier access to the verification process.

Dr. Ejikeme noted that the pilot of the scheme had kicked off in some states with some pensioners already making use of it.

She stated further that the unfinished verification was affecting them in managing their payment schedule.

Dr. Ejikeme, therefore, encouraged yet-to-be verified pensioners to quickly do so in other to be included on the PTAD database.

One of the pensioners, Mr. Moses Alountade who retired at NIPOST fifteen years ago, said he missed the verification in 2019 due to his poor health at the time.

Mr. Alountade said he was happy to be alive to meet up with this year’s exercise and thanked PTAD for giving him a second chance.

A retired teacher, Mrs. Oluwafunmilayo Bolaji said she missed the 2019 verification due to a communication gap between her and the pensioners’ association.

In the same vein, another pensioner, Mr. James Oyeleye said he was told that the verification would hold in Osun State in 2019 but later discovered that it was held in Ibadan.

The pensioners, therefore, appreciated the PTAD efforts at making the exercise conducive instead of the former rigorous event being witnessed by the second citizens.

Contributing, the National Secretary of Pensioners, Mr. Adeleke Adeniyi said the mop up verification was a right peg in a round hole that is aimed at reducing the untold hardship faced by pensioners in the past.

Mr. Adeniyi added that other pensioners who missed the 2019 verification should endeavour to be fully captured this time around.
