Fire has gutted a gas plant near the Redemption Camp at Mowe Bus Stop, in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Newsmen gathered that the explosion has caused panic in the area as residents and workers at various institutions within the area had been running helter-skelter to keep safe.

A resident in the area, who gave her name simply as Bola, said the fire started around 10.30 am, adding that the plant exploded close to the camp and around the police station situated at the camp.

“We were indoors when we suddenly heard the explosion, and everybody ran out to know what was going on. As I speak to you, the location of the explosion is burning,” Bola said.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Nosa Okunbor, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.

He said, “We are already on our way and the location of the explosion that we got was Redeemed Camp, Mowe Bus Stop.”

Nigeria Police, Ogun State Command has arrested two men for allegedly stealing vehicles belonging to different individuals at Redemption Camp during their various religious programs.

The suspects were arrested following a report by one Titilayo Otitodogbon that her car was stolen from the park by an unknown person.

The spokesman of the state’s command, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi said the DPO in-charge of Redeemed camp detailed his detectives to the area towards arresting the suspects.

Mr Oyeyemi said one of the suspects, who allegedly stole a car from the Redeemed Camp, was traced to Edo State, and was arrested

The police spokesman said the confessional statement of the suspect led the operatives to Onitsha in Anambra State where one Onyekachi Atama, who was his receiver and an accomplice, was also arrested.

Mr Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Kenneth Ebrimson, who commended the investigative team for a job well-done, had directed that the suspects be transferred to Anti-Car Theft Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for proper investigation and prosecution.
