The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr Dare Ogundare has visited the scene of Wednesday’s armed robbery incident at Ikere-Ekiti for an on-the-spot assessment.

In a statement made available to Newsmen in Ado Ekiti,  the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Sunday Abutu said the Commissioner expressed displeasure over the ugly incident.

He directed the Ikere Area Commander and all the Tactical Teams within the Command to ensure that, the perpetrators are trailed, arrested and brought to book. 

Mr Ogundare commiserated with the family members of those who lost their loved one and wished those currently receiving treatment in the hospital a quick recovery.

The Commissioner called for calm and implored everyone to go about their lawful businesses as the Command will not rest until the hoodlums are made to face the full wrath of the law. 

He explained that the Command’s tactical squads as well as the military who were deployed to the scene immediately information was received, engaged the hoodlums who later abandoned the three vehicles and two motorcycles they used for the operation and escaped into the bush. 

According to the CP, the vehicles and the motorcycles were recovered to the station.

Three persons were said to have been feared dead today in Ikere Ekiti and five others sustained injuries when suspected armed robbers attacked two commercial Banks, Access and Wema in the town.

The men of the underworld allegedly carried out the attack  in the peak hour of the day when business activities were ongoing which caught the residents unaware.

The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps codenamed So-Safe Corps has arrested a Motorist identified as Kehinde alongside his few accomplices for allegedly robbing passengers of their belongings in Abeokuta.

The suspects Taoreed Adeosun, Adeosun Funmilayo, Ayoola Yemi, Ogunlate Kehinde and Olonade Dele were arrested at Itoko, Ita-Morin and Adedotun Areas of Abeokuta after a discrete investigation by officers of the corps.

The State Commander of the Corps, Dr Soji Ganzallo confirmed the arrest of the suspects in a statement through the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, Mr Moruf Yusuf.

Dr Ganzallo explained that Kehinde Ogunlate and Yemi Ayoola would use the taxi to rob passengers, collect their phones, while the robbed items from passengers like phones would be handed over to Kehinde whom he said would sell it to Olonade Dele.

He said the suspects had confessed to committing the crime, explaining that the suspects claimed that they would drive the victims to a safer place for ease escape of their team.

 Dr Ganzallo pointed out that the suspects and the items recovered from  them had been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force, SWAT, Magbon, Abeokuta for further investigation and likely prosecution.

Nigeria Police, Ogun State Command, says it has successfully repelled an armed robbery gang that invaded the popular phone market in Okelewo area of Abeokuta. 

In a statement, the Command’s spokesman, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi said the armed robbery gang numbering about eight, stormed the market popularly known as TARMARC, shooting sporadically and carting away expensive phones. 

Mr Oyeyemi explained that one of the armed robbery suspects was arrested after a distress call was made to the police at Ibara Divisional Headquarters, and the DPO Ibara Division, CSP Abayomi Adeniji, quickly mobilized his anti-robbery and surveillance teams in collaboration with men of Amotekun Corps to the scene. 

He said a trader in the market, who was shot by the robbers, gave up the ghost while receiving treatment at General Hospital Ijaye Abeokuta. 

Items Recovered from the arrested robber included one double barrel locally made gun and assorted Criminal charms. 

Meanwhile the outgoing Commissioner of Police now AIG, Mr Frank Mba, has directed that the suspect be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Departments for discreet investigation. 

He equally ordered a massive manhunt for the remaining members of the gang with the view to bring them to justice.

The Edo State Police Command on Tuesday said its officials killed one armed robber while he was on a raid on Mandela Hostel, Gabriel Street, Ihumudumu, Ekpoma with his gang members.

This was contained in a statement by the state command Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Jennifer Iwegbu, who said the police were also searching for four other gang members, who escaped with gunshot wounds.

The statement read, “In its continuous determination to tackle violent crimes, the Edo State Police Command has neutralised one armed robber In Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of the state.

“On Monday, August 15, 2022, at about 03:30hrs, five armed robbers while invading one Mandela Hostel, at Gabriel Street, Ihumudumu, Ekpoma were intercepted by men of the command attached to Ekpoma Divisional headquarters following a distress call.

“Upon receipt of the information, the officials immediately mobilised in collaboration with the vigilante men and moved into action. On sighting the team of the police, the robbers opened fire on the police which led to a gun duel. With the superior firepower of the police, the robbers scampered for safety with various degrees of bullet injuries.

“However, one of the hoodlums, who was later identified as Emmanuel Johnson, about 24 years, was neutralised during the gun duel, while an effort is ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.

“Recovered from the gang are one locally made cut-to-size single barrel gun, five live cartridges, four expended cartridges and one laptop,” she added.

The statement added that the Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro, urged members of the public to continue to provide the police with useful and credible information on criminal activities across the state while assuring citizens and visitors that the police would continue to do its best to ensure a crime-free state.

Men of Ogun state police command have arrested three armed robbery suspects for allegedly invading a provision shop and dispossessed the owner of huge sum of money.
The suspects, Anu Ibikunle 32 year old , Rasheed Bisiriyu 22 years of age and Adebowale Dada 25 year old were apprehended after the policemen in Atan- ota divisional headquarters got information that men of underworld had invaded a provision and drinks shop at oke ore area, and the owner,one Tope Alabi had been held hostage.
The Police Public Relations officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the arrest of the suspects in a statement in Abeokuta.
Mr Oyeyemi who explained that suspects attacked the policemen said the determination of the men and officers of the command paved the way for their arrest.
He said the items would from the suspects included
one locally made pistol, two live cartridges and assorted dangerous charms.
Meanwhile, the commissioner of police, Mr Edward Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation.
Mr Ajogun also appealed to members of the public to always inform the police on time whenever they noticed any distress situation.

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have shot dead an armed robbery suspect and other members of the gang escaped with gunshot injuries in Ikenne area of the state.

The Police Public Relations officer, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi said in a statement in Abeokuta that the officers in the area had got information that a group of armed robbers had blocked road along Olabiro street in Ikenne and dispossessing people of their valuables at gun point.

Mr. Oyeyemi said the Divisional Police Officer in Ikenne, Mr. Noukauba Onuma mobilized his patrol team and rushed to the scene where they engaged the armed robbers in a gun battle which he claimed lasted for about thirty minutes.

He explained that one of the suspect was shot dead while others escaped with various degree of gunshot injuries, adding that one locally made gun, one live cartridge and one expended cartridge were recovered from the scene of the incident.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Edward Ajogun has directed that the fleeing members of the gang be hunted for and brought to justice within the shortest possible time.
