The All Progressive Congress, APC has disqualified the Former National Secretary of the APC, Senator Iyiola Omisore and six other aspirants from participating in the forthcoming governorship primary in Osun State.

According to the Screening committee, the disqualified aspirants did not provide evidence of sponsorship by at least five fully registered and financially up-to-date party members from each Local Government Area in Osun State, as stipulated in Articles 9.3(i) and 31.2(ii) of the APC Constitution and Paragraph 6(c) of the party’s guidelines.

Other disqualified aspirants including ; former Deputy Governor of Osun State ,Mr. Benedict Alabi, Mr.Dotun Babayemi, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Mr. Kunle Adegoke, SAN, and Mr Babatunde Oralusi.

Meanwhile, the APC Screening committee has cleared two aspirants, Mrs. Mulikat Jimoh and Alhaji Munirudeen Oyebamiji to contest the primary scheduled to hold on 13th of this month.

A former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has formally declared his intention to run for Governor of Osun State in the 2026 election.

Senator Omisore made the declaration at the APC state secretariat in Osogbo, surrounded by a massive crowd of party supporters and leaders from across the state.

He expressed confidence that he would win the party’s ticket in the primary election scheduled for December 15, 2025.

“I am expecting Osun State people to vote for APC en masse, come August 8, 2026,” Omisore stated.

He pointed to the large turnout as proof of his strong support from core APC members and their readiness to back his candidacy.

A former lawmaker at the event, Mr Ajibola Famurewa, endorsed Omisore as the most experienced candidate, citing his prior role as Deputy Governor.

“We are confident that with their support, Omisore will emerge as the party’s candidate and deliver victory,” Famurewa said.

Senator Omisore then urged his supporters to remain orderly during the primaries and promised that local campaign tours would soon begin.

The British High Commission has expressed its readiness to support every stakeholder in the Osun 2022 governorship election towards ensuring a credible election in the state.

The Political Adviser to the Commission in Nigeria, Mr Wale Adebajo stated this during a visit of the commission’s team to governor Oyetola in Osogbo.

Mr Adebajo who said the commission would be on ground as an observer during the election urged political parties to toe the path of peace before, during, and after the governorship election.

While responding, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola expressed his commitment to peace in the ongoing governorship race despite being provoked by the opposition parties.

Governor Oyetola who adjudged Osun state as the most peaceful said necessary actions should be taken to sustain the peace being witnessed in the state.

In his remark, APC national secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore gave an assurance that the party and its members would continue to pursue the election in a peaceful manner.

Radio Nigeria reports that also in attendance at the meeting with the British High Commission team were top Osun State Government functionaries.

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State has applauded All Progressives Congress, APC, members and supporters in the state for their firm belief in his administration and their unwavering support at all times to ensure victory for the party.

Governor Oyetola stated this in Osogbo the Osun State capital at an event to welcome the new national scribe of the APC, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

He expressed joy that the state was able to produce the national secretary, thanking party leaders and members whose efforts helped in achieving the feat.

While soliciting their support for the party in the July 16 Governorship election, Governor Oyetola assured them that more good things are on there way for all in his second term in office.

Earlier, Senator Omisore had described his emergence as APC National Secretary as a victory for all to entrench quality leadership in all ramifications and ensure all-round victory for the party in the next Osun guber polls and in next year’s general elections.

He urged members to continue to work for unity and progress of the party.

Senator Omisore also appreciated party leaders including Senator Bola Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande and all APC governors for their support.

Radio Nigeria reports that party’s faithful trooped out in large number to grace the carnival-like event held at the popular Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, Osogbo, where the seasoned Ife-born politician was given a rousing welcome.
